If Castle Volkihar’s gate stays shut while you’re taking Serana home in Skyrim: Dawnguard, confirm that the relevant quest is active and that Serana has caught up to you at the gate. If it still will not open, try a save from before the problem before attempting console commands or a clipping exploit. Check the quest and Serana first
- Make sure you are on the Dawnguard quest route that sends you with Serana to Castle Volkihar, and that its objective is active.
- Check whether Serana is at the gate. If she is behind you, go back to her and give her time to catch up.
- Try interacting with the gate again once she is there.
