If DOOM Eternal is in your Steam Library but its campaign will not launch, first check whether the separate Campaign install component is enabled and fully downloaded. In Steam, right-click DOOM Eternal in your Library, choose Properties, open DLC, and check DOOM Eternal (Campaign). Bethesda says some versions do not install the campaign with the initial game download.
Check whether the Campaign component is installed
- Open your Steam Library, right-click DOOM Eternal, and select Properties.
- Select the DLC tab.
- Find DOOM Eternal (Campaign) and make sure its checkbox is selected.
- If you have just enabled it, open Steam’s Downloads page and wait for the campaign download to finish before launching the game.
Bethesda’s instructions say the full game installation includes both Campaign and BATTLEMODE, but some versions may not install the campaign initially. Steam’s store listing describes the single-player campaign as included with DOOM Eternal, while Steam Support lists “DOOM Eternal (Campaign)” as a DLC component. In this context, “DLC” is the Steam installation label; it does not by itself mean you need to buy a separate campaign product. Bethesda’s campaign launch instructions, Steam’s DOOM Eternal listing, and Steam Support’s Campaign listing describe those details.

If Steam asks you to buy DOOM Eternal
If you own The Ancient Gods – Part One separately and Steam prompts you to buy the base game when you try to play, Bethesda documents this specific issue. Its recommended steps are to reinstall the base campaign from your Steam Library, then confirm that DOOM Eternal (Campaign) is checked under the game’s Properties > DLC settings and that its download has completed. See Bethesda’s Steam purchase-prompt guidance.
A purchase prompt does not establish, by itself, whether the cause is ownership or installation. The support steps above address the campaign install component; they do not show that every purchase prompt has the same cause.

Does the campaign require an internet connection?
Bethesda says Campaign can be played offline, although some platforms require a sign-in before the game loads. Internet access is needed to sign in and download updates or patches. So an offline connection is not, on its own, an explanation for a Campaign component that is missing from Steam’s DLC settings. Bethesda’s connectivity guidance covers the sign-in and offline-play qualification.

The Bethesda instructions cited here cover enabling or reinstalling the Campaign component and waiting for its download to complete. They do not establish a further Steam-specific fix for a campaign that remains inaccessible after those checks. Do not assume that relinking accounts, verifying game files, or repurchasing the game is an official remedy based on those instructions.
