If your Fortnite gift card will not redeem, check the exact error before trying again: a region mismatch, retailer activation problem, Epic account limit, stuck button, or wrong card/account flow each needs a different fix. Do not buy another card until you know which issue you have.
Start with the error message
| What you see | Likely issue | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Country or region rejection | The card’s region does not match the country on the Epic account. | Check the region printed or designated on the card and the account country. |
| “This code has not been activated by the retailer” | The seller did not activate the card at purchase. | Contact the retailer with the card and proof of purchase. |
| “You have reached your account top-up limit” | Your Epic account has reached a regional balance or transaction limit. | Check Epic’s current limits and reduce your existing balance if needed. |
| Redeem Code button does nothing | A browser, extension, network, or device issue may be blocking the flow. | Try Epic’s browser and device troubleshooting steps. |
| The code is rejected or seems missing | The wrong code flow, account, or card type may be in use, or the PIN may be obscured or damaged. | Confirm the card type, account, and PIN, then use the dedicated gift-card flow. |
Check whether the card and account regions match
Epic says Fortnite gift cards are locked to specific regions. The country or region on your Epic account must match the region designated on the card. Check both before entering the PIN repeatedly; a card purchased for one region may not redeem on an account set to another.

If Epic says the retailer did not activate the card
The message “This code has not been activated by the retailer” means the card was not activated at the point of sale. Epic Support cannot activate it; the retailer where it was purchased must resolve the issue. Keep the receipt or online order details.
- In-store purchase: Take the card and receipt back to the retailer and ask staff to check or complete activation.
- Online purchase: Contact the seller’s support team with the order number and ask them to activate the card or provide a replacement.
Epic’s activation guidance appeared in an official support search result that redirected when opened, so treat the retailer instructions as the support guidance reported there. The card still needs to be resolved with the seller.

If your Epic account has reached its top-up limit
Epic says balance and transaction limits vary by region. The following examples are from its account balance and transaction limits support page. The page does not display a publication date, and limits can change; check it for the current rules that apply to your account.
| Region | Limits stated by Epic |
|---|---|
| United States and Canada | Account balance cannot exceed $500 USD or $600 CAD (or equivalent); the stated 24-hour transaction ceiling is also $500 USD or $600 CAD. Epic lists a $5,000 USD or equivalent 12-month transaction ceiling. Without two-factor authentication, the page says the balance limit is $150 USD or $200 CAD. |
| Germany | Account balance and additions in a calendar month cannot exceed €250; the stated 12-month transaction ceiling is €3,000. |
| Mexico | The page states a $3,500 USD-equivalent balance ceiling and a $3,500 USD-equivalent limit on amounts added or spent over any six-month period. |
If the explicit top-up-limit error appears, Epic advises spending existing funds in the Epic Games Store until your balance is low enough to redeem the card. If your remaining balance is below the price of an item you want, Epic notes that you can use another payment method to cover the purchase.

If the Redeem Code button does nothing
Try these steps, changing one thing at a time so you can tell whether it fixed the problem:
- Open the redemption page in a private or incognito browser window.
- Clear the browser’s cache and cookies, then try again.
- Disable browser extensions and background applications, including VPN services, and retry.
- Switch to another browser or device.
- Try a mobile device using mobile data rather than the current connection.
- If the button still will not respond, submit an Epic Support ticket.
These steps are listed in Epic’s guidance for a nonworking Redeem Code button.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.

Make sure you have the right card, PIN, account, and redemption flow
Fortnite Gift Card or V-Bucks card?
A Fortnite Gift Card adds monetary value to the Epic account balance for eligible Epic purchases. A V-Bucks card adds V-Bucks only. They are different products and use different redemption destinations. Check the card’s label and value before choosing a redemption flow; Epic explains the distinction in its gift-card redemption instructions.
Find and enter the PIN carefully
Epic’s instructions say to scan the QR code on the back of the gift card or open the gift-card redemption flow and enter the PIN. If the code is not on the card, check the store receipt. Epic describes the gift-card code as 16 digits and advises peeling the silver strip rather than scratching it, which can damage the code.

Sign in to the account that should receive the value
Use the Epic Games account—or the relevant console account—that should receive the balance. Review the account details before confirming. Link other accounts if prompted, then review the redemption details and select Redeem now. Epic also says to read and accept the Account Balance terms in Payment Settings.
Do not use the ordinary product-code route for a Fortnite gift card: Epic’s general Epic account code instructions direct Fortnite gift-card users to the dedicated gift-card instructions.

When to contact support
- Retailer activation error: Contact the retailer, not Epic, and provide the receipt or order information.
- Button remains stuck: After trying the browser and device steps, submit an Epic Support ticket.
- Another code failure: Note the exact error, confirm which account is signed in, and check the card type and region before contacting Epic Support. The available official instructions do not establish one universal fix for every account-specific rejection.
