Roblox said it changed its logo to better reflect how its platform had evolved and its vision for immersive 3D experiences that bring people together. Announced on August 27, 2022, the refresh kept the familiar tilted mark while making changes to the lettering.
Why Roblox said it changed its logo
In an announcement published on August 27, 2022, Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki said the company wanted its identity to reflect the evolution of the platform and its vision for immersive 3D experiences focused on bringing people together. Roblox expected the updated logo to appear across the platform over the following week.
Baszucki described the tilt as a distinctive feature associated with “building, progression, and motion.” The company chose to retain it while refining the wordmark. As he put it, “In refining the logo, we wanted to retain the equity of the tilt while also reflecting the evolution of our platform.” Roblox’s announcement explains the company’s stated reasoning.
What changed in the logo
- Lighter lettering: The refreshed wordmark introduced custom letterforms with a lighter weight, which Roblox described as a more modern aesthetic.
- The second “o” became a letter again: The updated wordmark restored the second “o” as a letter rather than treating it as the distinctive tilted shape.
- A refined tilt: Roblox kept the tilted mark but adjusted it slightly, aiming to preserve its recognizable character.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The explanation describes Roblox’s design intent: the company wanted its logo to better represent the platform it was building. It does not report measured changes in user response, brand recognition, engagement, or business performance, so those outcomes cannot be attributed to the redesign based on the announcement.
