If your Minecraft hotbar has disappeared, first check whether the whole heads-up display (HUD) is hidden. In Java Edition, press F1 to show it again; in Bedrock Edition, check the Video settings for Hide HUD. If only the Bedrock hotbar is missing and a command may have hidden it, use /hud @s reset hotbar with cheats enabled.
First, identify your edition and device
The hotbar is part of Minecraft’s HUD. The right fix depends on whether you’re playing Java or Bedrock, and on how you control the game. Java’s documented shortcut is a keyboard key; Bedrock has a settings route and a command that can target the hotbar specifically.

- Java Edition on a keyboard: try the HUD toggle below.
- Bedrock Edition: check the in-game Video settings, or use the command if cheats are enabled and the hotbar was hidden by a command.
- Console or mobile: don’t assume a PC keyboard shortcut applies. Use the settings available on your device.
Java Edition: press F1 to restore the HUD
Minecraft Help says that F1 hides the HUD in Java Edition. Press it again to toggle the display back on. Because this hides the HUD broadly, other interface elements may reappear along with the hotbar. Minecraft Help’s Java screenshot guide documents the F1 behavior.
If F1 doesn’t work
If you changed your key bindings, check Options > Controls > Key Binds for the HUD action; Minecraft Help notes that customized hotkeys can differ. On some laptops, using function keys may depend on the keyboard’s Fn setting, so check your device’s function-key behavior rather than assuming a particular Fn combination works for every laptop. Bedrock Edition: check Video settings
Open the game’s settings and look in Video for Hide HUD. Turn it off if it is enabled. Menu names and placement can vary by device or version, so use the settings available in your own game rather than relying on one universal menu path.
Bedrock Edition: reset hotbar visibility with a command
If the hotbar alone is missing and you suspect it was hidden with a command, Microsoft documents this reset:

/hud @s reset hotbar
The command resets the hotbar’s visibility to its default state. It requires cheats to be enabled. Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock HUD command reference lists hotbar as a HUD element and describes the reset behavior; the page was last updated March 12, 2024.
If the hotbar is still missing
Try disabling resource packs or add-ons temporarily, then rejoin the world or restart the game to isolate whether one is involved. These are cautious troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed fix: Minecraft’s Bedrock graphics guidance recommends disabling add-ons for graphics issues generally, but does not identify them as a specific cause of an invisible hotbar.
