Because Minecraft has no universal Shaders button. In Bedrock Edition, look for Vibrant Visuals under Settings > Video > Graphics Mode; it appears only on compatible devices and can be disabled by unsupported content. In Java Edition, shader controls come from a shader mod such as Iris—not from a built-in Minecraft button.
First, identify your Minecraft edition
The missing control has different explanations depending on whether you play Bedrock or Java. Bedrock’s official shader-like graphics option is called Vibrant Visuals. Java players need a compatible shader mod to add shader functionality.

Bedrock: where Vibrant Visuals should appear
- Update Minecraft to a current version.
- Open Settings > Video.
- Open Graphics Mode and select Vibrant Visuals, if it is listed.
Microsoft’s creator documentation describes the setting as a Graphics Mode drop-down on the Video settings screen: Vibrant Visuals.
Check device compatibility
Minecraft lists Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC as supported platforms, subject to the applicable device requirements. The stated thresholds include Android Adreno 640, Mali-G68, Mali-G77, or Xclipse 530 or higher; iOS A12 or M1 or higher; and PC running Minecraft on DX12. These are compatibility specifications, not a promise of a particular frame rate or image quality. Consult the official feature page for current requirements, which may change.

Check loaded Marketplace content
Unsupported Marketplace worlds or texture packs can disable Vibrant Visuals, leaving Fancy or Simple graphics modes instead. The option may return when you use supported content. Minecraft says supported Marketplace content is labeled for Vibrant Visuals; see its Vibrant Visuals FAQ and feature page.
Java: a shader pack alone does not add the menu
Java Edition does not provide a built-in Shaders button. A shader pack is the visual content; you also need compatible shader-support software to load it. Iris is one Java Edition shader mod. Its project documentation says it supports Minecraft 1.16.5 and higher, with Fabric support on 1.16.5+ and NeoForge support on 1.21.1+. Iris ships with Sodium, but shader support still depends on the device, and some rendering mods are incompatible. Confirm your game version, loader, and other rendering mods against Iris’s current documentation.

Iris can be installed using its project installer or through distribution sites listed by the project. Once installed, open the shader controls associated with that setup; their location depends on the installed software and version. Installing only a shader-pack file will not create those controls.
If Vibrant Visuals or shader controls are still missing
- Bedrock: Confirm the edition, update the game, check Video > Graphics Mode, compare the device with the official requirements, and test without unsupported Marketplace content.
- Java: Confirm that a shader mod is installed, then check that its supported Minecraft version and mod loader match your setup. Review compatibility if another rendering mod is installed.
- Still unclear: The cause cannot be identified from the missing button alone. The edition, game version, device, and installed packs or mods determine which checks apply.
Is Vibrant Visuals coming to Java?
Minecraft’s FAQ said Java support was being worked on but gave no release date. That statement appeared in the FAQ as accessed on October 8, 2026; it is not a launch schedule. Check the FAQ for any later update.
