A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Most failed Fortnite uninstalls come from one of three mistakes: deleting the game folder by hand instead of removing it through the platform’s own tools, removing a Fortnite Experience entry that is only a shortcut, or looking for the uninstall option in the wrong menu for your device. On PC, the fix is almost always to uninstall from the Epic Games Launcher. On consoles, use the game-management menu on that console. The sections below explain each path and what to check when the option is missing or an error appears.
Uninstall Fortnite on PC through the Epic Games Launcher
Epic’s support instructions for removing a game from the Launcher are the starting point on PC. The steps are:
- Open the Epic Games Launcher.
- Select Library.
- Find Fortnite in the list.
- Click the three dots next to the game.
- Choose Uninstall, then confirm.
Epic’s guide to uninstalling a game in the Launcher is at https://www.epicgames.com/help/en-US/c-NetworkConnectivitySupport/a000087932. This is the right first step whenever the game files are still on the drive or the Launcher lists Fortnite as installed.
Why deleting the game folder does not finish the job
If you already removed the files in File Explorer, the uninstall may appear to have worked while the Launcher still records Fortnite as installed. Epic’s guidance on this exact situation says the Launcher may keep reporting the game as installed after manual deletion, and it points back to the Launcher’s uninstall process rather than promising that deleting files clears the record. In Epic’s words: “If you intend to uninstall the game, it is best to do it through the Epic Games Launcher instead of manually deleting the files.” The article is at https://www.epicgames.com/help/c-32735058/c-36403860/epic-games-launcher-a24703041.

If you are in this state, run the Launcher uninstall from the Library steps above. Epic’s sources do not describe a separate manual method for clearing a leftover record, so do not rely on deleting more folders to fix the status.
Multiple Fortnite entries: shortcuts versus the main installation
Some PC users see more than one Fortnite entry in their Library. Epic states that some of these are shortcuts to Fortnite Experiences rather than separate copies of the game. Uninstalling a shortcut does not remove Fortnite from the PC, and it does not remove the corresponding game type from your Fortnite installation. Epic’s explanation is at https://www.epicgames.com/help/c-34254770/c-33726977/why-do-i-have-multiple-fortnite-versions-in-my-launcher-and-what-happens-if-i-delete-one-a14971121.
| Entry you selected | What Epic says it is | Effect of uninstalling it |
|---|---|---|
| Main Fortnite installation | The game installed on the PC | Removes Fortnite from the PC through the Launcher |
| Fortnite Experience entry marked as a shortcut | A shortcut that points to an Experience | Does not remove Fortnite from the PC or the game type from the installation |
Before removing an entry, check whether it is one of the shortcut Experiences. If you are unsure which one is the main installation, Epic’s page above is the reference for how the Launcher lists these items.

Remove Fortnite on consoles
On consoles, removal happens through the console’s own game-management menu, not through the Epic Games Launcher. Epic’s console steps are:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- PlayStation: highlight Fortnite and select Delete.
- Xbox: open My Games & Apps, highlight Fortnite, press the Menu button, then choose Uninstall.
- Nintendo Switch: highlight Fortnite, press +, choose Manage Software, then choose Delete Software.
These steps appear in Epic’s console troubleshooting article at https://www.epicgames.com/help/c-34254770/a15385006?lang=en-US. That article is written for crashes and errors, so the removal steps are part of a broader troubleshooting page rather than a standalone uninstall guide. Menu labels can change with console system updates, so if a label differs, look for the equivalent delete or uninstall option for Fortnite.
Uninstalling does not delete your account progress
Epic states that Fortnite data, progress, and items are stored in your Epic Games account, not on the linked console or device. Removing the local installation therefore clears the game files from that device, but it does not remove your progress or purchased items. Reinstalling later and signing in to the same account restores that data. Epic’s reinstall guide is at https://www.epicgames.com/help/c-32551467/c-42684050/a20302075?lang=en-US.

When the uninstall option is missing or fails
If you cannot find the uninstall option, or the removal stops with an error, the cause is not established by the sources Epic publishes on this topic. Epic’s pages describe the menu paths above but do not list every failure state, so a guess about permissions, corrupted files, storage, or account problems would not be supported. Collect the following before you troubleshoot further:
- The device: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.
- Whether you are using the Epic Games Launcher or a console menu.
- The exact wording of any error message.
- Whether the Fortnite entry you selected is the main installation or a shortcut.
With those details, the right Epic support article can be matched to the problem.

| Device | Where to uninstall | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Epic Games Launcher, Library, three dots, Uninstall | Manual file deletion can leave the Launcher showing Fortnite as installed |
| PC Fortnite Experience entry | Launcher Library entry | A shortcut uninstall does not remove Fortnite from the PC |
| PlayStation | Highlight Fortnite, select Delete | Progress stays with the Epic Games account |
| Xbox | My Games & Apps, highlight Fortnite, Menu, Uninstall | Progress stays with the Epic Games account |
| Nintendo Switch | Highlight Fortnite, +, Manage Software, Delete Software | Progress stays with the Epic Games account |
To check which Fortnite entry you are looking at on PC, open the Launcher’s Library and compare the entry against the shortcut explanation in Epic’s article linked above.
In short, the uninstall path that works depends on the device and the entry you selected. Use the Launcher on PC, the console’s delete menu on consoles, and check for shortcuts before removing a second entry.
