“Why can’t I use my credit card on PSN?” Usually, the card is unsupported for your PlayStation Store region, its billing details do not match your bank’s records, online payments are disabled, or PlayStation or your card issuer is temporarily blocking the transaction. The exact error matters: first check the Store region and the card details, then follow any error-specific instructions. If PlayStation says your payment information was updated too often, stop trying for 24 hours.
Why a PlayStation Store card payment can fail
A card can be declined while you are adding it, paying for a purchase, or funding your wallet. Those actions are related, but a failure in one does not automatically identify the cause of another. Start with the exact message or error code, and note which action failed.

- Region mismatch: PlayStation Store payment options depend on the country or region of the account. A card registered in a different country may not link. See PlayStation’s card troubleshooting guidance and regional card-payment information.
- Billing details do not match: The name, expiration date, and billing address may differ from what the card issuer has on file.
- Issuer restrictions: The card may be inactive, have insufficient available funds, be blocked, or have online payments disabled. PlayStation Support notes, “If you have told your payment provider to disable online payments, you might not be able to register your card as a payment method on PlayStation Store.”
- Temporary service or security issue: A PlayStation service problem can prevent payment details from being recorded. Repeated edits or attempts can also trigger a temporary security block.
What to check, in order
- Read the exact error. Record its wording or code and whether you were adding a card, buying something, or adding wallet funds. Different error codes point to different checks.
- Confirm the Store region. Check that the card type is accepted for your account’s PlayStation Store country or region, and that the card’s issuing country is compatible. Payment methods vary by region; consult PlayStation’s card guidance and wallet funding guidance.
- Match the issuer’s records. Carefully recheck the card number, security details, expiration date, cardholder name, and billing address. For WC-34731-8, PlayStation specifically says the address order and abbreviations should match the issuer’s records; it also advises against a PO Box for that error.
- Use only permitted field adjustments. Some PlayStation troubleshooting guidance advises removing special characters from name or address fields and using the closest basic Latin letter. Do not change other details just to make them fit: the goal is to match the issuer’s record within PlayStation’s field constraints.
- Ask the card issuer about restrictions. Confirm that the card is active, has available funds, permits online payments, and has not been blocked from this transaction.
- Check PlayStation service status. If services are impaired, wait for recovery before entering the payment details again. PlayStation’s wallet funding troubleshooting page also recommends checking service conditions.
- Honor any security delay. If the message says payment information was updated too often, do not retry for 24 hours. Further attempts during the block can restart its timer.
- Try an eligible alternative if appropriate. Depending on your region, PlayStation may support another payment method or a Store wallet top-up code. Check the local Store’s accepted options and make sure a code matches the account’s region.
- Escalate with the exact message. If the checks do not resolve the issue, contact the issuer or PlayStation Support. A generic payment failure alone does not prove the card is defective.
What specific PlayStation error codes mean
“Your card could not be updated” or too many updates
PlayStation says this security block requires a 24-hour wait. Do not make more attempts during that period, because they can restart the timer. See the official card troubleshooting page.
PS4 WS-43689-0
PlayStation advises checking the card information, trying to register it again or using another card, and retrying later; a Store card is another option. Repeatedly registering or deleting cards may trigger a temporary block, for which PlayStation advises waiting 24 hours. See PlayStation’s WS-43689-0 guidance.

PS5 WS-113947-5
Check the registered payment details, including expiration and billing address. PlayStation also suggests another payment method or waiting 24 hours in case of a temporary issue. See PlayStation’s WS-113947-5 guidance.
PS4 WC-34731-8
This error indicates invalid card information. Match the cardholder and address details to the issuer’s records, including address order and abbreviations. PlayStation’s instructions for this error say not to use a PO Box and to avoid certain special characters. See PlayStation’s WC-34731-8 guidance.

PS4 E-82000050
PlayStation says the address may be invalid or there may be a server error. Check service status and make sure the account address matches the card records. Its guidance also says the card or voucher country must match the account country. See PlayStation’s E-82000050 guidance.
Alternatives if the card still will not work
Available payment methods differ by Store region, so check the local PlayStation Store’s options rather than assuming a method listed for another country will work. An alternative payment method may pay directly for a purchase where supported; a wallet top-up code adds funds to the Store wallet. Neither fixes the declined card itself.

A PlayStation Store gift card or wallet top-up code can be a way to fund the wallet while you resolve a card issue, including during a payment-information security wait. Confirm the code is valid for your account’s region. PlayStation describes regional payment and wallet options in its card troubleshooting and wallet funding guidance.
If you use a child account
A child account cannot add a payment method or funds. It uses the family manager’s wallet, subject to the monthly spending limit set by the family manager. PlayStation explains account payment rules in its card and payment-method guidance.

When to contact PlayStation or your bank
Contact your card issuer if you need to confirm whether online payments are enabled, the card is active, or the transaction was blocked. Contact PlayStation Support if the account region and issuer details are correct, service status is normal, and the error remains. Provide the exact error text or code and say whether the issue occurred when adding the card, paying, or funding the wallet. For region-specific eligibility, use the PlayStation support page for your account’s Store country; the linked instructions include US, Canada, and Singapore locales.
