Steam Community Market access can be blocked by a temporary security timer, a missing qualifying purchase, payment verification, or an account restriction. The exact message shown when you try to use the Market is the best way to identify which applies. Steam says its Support team cannot remove trading or Market restrictions.
Start with the restriction message
Sign in and try the Market action again, then note the exact message Steam displays. Steam says the reason is typically shown when you attempt a trade or Market action. Its Trading and Market Restrictions FAQ groups possible causes including a newly authorized device, Steam Guard changes, a password reset, purchase history, payment verification, limited-account status, and bans.

Use the wording to distinguish a temporary timer from a broader account restriction. Also check whether the issue affects every device or only one, and whether it concerns using the Market at all or just a particular item.
Security settings and device timers
Newly authorized device or browser
A device that Steam has not previously authorized through Steam Guard may be unable to use the Market for seven days. Clearing browser cookies, switching browsers, reinstalling Steam, or reformatting a computer can make it appear to Steam as a new device. If the restriction follows only one device or browser, recent changes to that setup are worth checking.

Steam says a Mobile Authenticator active for at least seven days changes how new-device restrictions apply because confirmations happen in the app. This does not erase restrictions already in place.
Steam Guard or authenticator changes
Steam Guard, by email or Mobile Authenticator, must have been enabled for 15 days before trading or Market use. Recently enabling it, disabling and re-enabling it, or removing the Mobile Authenticator can trigger a 15-day restriction. Avoid toggling these settings while a timer is running.

Adding an authenticator is not an instant fix: Steam says transactions created during its first seven days may be held for up to 15 days, and adding it does not shorten holds already in place. See Steam’s Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator guidance for hold details.
Password reset
Resetting a forgotten password can cause a five-day trading and Market restriction. Steam distinguishes this from changing a password through Steam client settings, and its FAQ notes that a longer restriction may apply in some circumstances when the account has not been active recently. Follow the duration stated in your account’s message rather than assuming every password change has the same effect.

Purchase history and account standing
Qualifying purchase requirement
Steam requires a successful purchase that is more than seven days old and less than one year old. Steam Wallet funds, games, downloadable content, and software count. Retail CD-key activations and gift purchases do not. If there has been a chargeback, only purchases made after the latest chargeback count toward this requirement.
This condition is only one possible cause. A qualifying purchase will not clear a device timer, Steam Guard wait, ban, or unrelated restriction. Redeeming a Steam gift does not grant Market access, as the Community Market FAQ explains.

Limited accounts, bans, and item eligibility
Steam lists limited-account status and current trade or Community bans among reasons access may be restricted. VAC bans or related enforcement can also affect CS2 item trading and access to the CS2 store. If the on-screen message identifies an enforcement issue, use that account-specific notice to understand its scope.
A separate issue may be that an individual item is not eligible for sale. Only eligible items appear in the Market sell selection, and Steam Support says it cannot change an item’s inventory eligibility.

Payment verification and item holds
Unverified payment method
Steam says an unverified payment method can require a three-day wait before you can make Community Market purchases. A recently added payment method can also affect item cooldowns, which vary by game. Steam identifies a card verified with its card-ownership tool as trusted for this purpose; follow the verification instructions shown by Steam if the message points to payment verification.
A hold is not a Market block
An item hold delays an item’s transfer to another account; it does not by itself prevent you from trading or using the Market. Steam says trades or listings created before adding the Mobile Authenticator, or during its first seven days, may be held for 15 days. Later listings are not held by Steam for this reason.
What to do next
- Try the Market action and record the exact restriction message Steam shows.
- If it appears device-specific, check whether you recently cleared cookies, changed browsers, reinstalled Steam, or changed the computer.
- Review when Steam Guard was enabled and whether an authenticator was recently added or removed. Do not repeatedly disable and re-enable security while waiting.
- Check purchase history for a successful qualifying purchase in the required age window, accounting for any chargeback. A retail key or gift redemption does not satisfy this requirement.
- If the message concerns a payment method, complete Steam’s verification steps and observe the stated wait.
- If it identifies a ban or another enforcement restriction, follow the account-specific notice; Steam Support cannot modify the restriction itself.
Can Steam Support remove a Market restriction?
No. Steam states that Support cannot modify trading or Community Market restrictions, regardless of the circumstances that caused them. For temporary restrictions, follow the timer and account instructions Steam provides; for item eligibility, Support likewise says it cannot make an ineligible item sellable.
