Why did Concord discs suddenly attract buyers?
Sony announced on September 3, 2024, that it would stop selling Concord immediately and take the game offline beginning September 6. That turned remaining physical copies into a finite supply: no new retail copies would be added, and the game’s abrupt withdrawal made the disc an unusual artifact of a short-lived release. The announcement triggered a news-driven collector moment, not evidence that the disc had become more useful for playing.

In its September 9, 2024 report, Ars Technica described rarity and collector interest as the main reasons prices rose. The supply explanation has an important qualification: Sony did not publish a count of how many PS5 discs were made or sold.
What did Concord PS5 discs sell for in September 2024?
Ars Technica reported that a new physical PS5 copy had recently retailed for about $40. It analyzed nearly 300 completed eBay listings for new copies dated September 3–8, 2024, and found a $100 median sale price across that period.

A few sealed copies approached $500, but those were outliers, not the typical sale. None of these numbers establishes the disc’s current resale value: they describe completed sales during a brief September 2024 period, not current listings or prices.
How many PS5 discs were made?
The number is not publicly established in the cited reporting. Ars Technica cited GameDiscoverCo analyst Simon Carless’s estimate of 25,000 total Concord sales across PS5 and PC. From that estimate, and assumptions about how sales split between platforms and physical versus digital copies, Ars reasoned that the number of PS5 discs could be in the single-digit thousands.

That is a conditional inference, not an official production or sales count. The estimate helps explain why collectors might see the disc as scarce, but it cannot establish exactly how many copies exist.
Can you still play Concord from the PS5 disc?
No. Sony took Concord offline beginning September 6, 2024, so owning the disc is not a way to access the game after shutdown. In its September 3, 2024 announcement, Game Director Ryan Ellis wrote: “Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.” The post also says, “Once refunded, players will no longer have access to the game.”

Sony offered full refunds. Buyers who purchased a physical copy through another retailer were directed to that retailer’s refund process. The disc’s remaining appeal is as a collectible tied to the game’s short release, not as a working route to play it.

The controller is a separate collectible, and unlike the game disc it remains usable as PS5 hardware, according to Ars Technica’s 2024 report. Ars reported a Sony retail price of $85 and a $252.50 median among completed eBay sales on September 8, 2024. Those are historical figures; current availability and resale prices are not established here.
