Why Corsair Acquired Fanatec: A Sim-Racing Portfolio Play

Corsair’s 2024 Fanatec acquisition added a broad range of sim-racing controls to its gaming portfolio. Here’s what the deal involved and what is known about its progress.

Corsair acquired Fanatec’s sim-racing brand, product line and associated personnel from Endor AG in an asset purchase that closed on September 19, 2024, according to Corsair’s SEC filing. Corsair announced the completed deal publicly on September 23. The strategic fit was straightforward: Fanatec added force-feedback wheelbases, steering wheels, pedals, shifters and accessories to a portfolio in which Corsair already had sim-racing chassis and broader gaming products.

What Corsair acquired, and when

Corsair announced a definitive agreement on September 16, 2024, to acquire the Fanatec Sim Racing brand and associated personnel from Endor AG. The transaction was an asset purchase, and Corsair said it did not disclose the financial terms. Corsair’s SEC filing gives September 19, 2024, as the closing date; the company’s public announcement that the deal had closed came on September 23.

Those dates refer to different events: the filing records when the acquisition closed, while September 23 is when Corsair issued its public close announcement. Corsair described the acquired business as the Fanatec Sim Racing brand, not as the purchase of all of Endor AG.

Why Fanatec fit Corsair’s gaming portfolio

Fanatec brought hardware that fills in the driving-control side of a sim-racing setup: force-feedback wheelbases and steering wheels, pedals, shifters and other accessories. Corsair said the products support PlayStation, Xbox and PC-based racing simulators. That platform breadth does not mean that every Fanatec component works with every platform; compatibility depends on the specific product and setup.

#1 Best Overall
Fanatec Officially Licensed Gran Turismo DD Pro PlayStation Sim Racing Steering Wheel, Base and Pedals – Polyphony Digital Wheel, 5 Nm FluxBarrier Direct Drive, 2-Pedal Set for PC, PS5, PS4
  • PlayStation compatible: Officially licensed for PS5 and PS4 consoles. Also works on Windows PC
  • 5 Nm Direct Drive servo motor: Custom-designed in Germany for sim racing providing linear, consistent performance with patented FluxBarrier technology to improve motor efficiency and smoothness
  • Passively cooled base: Housing is made from aluminum (passive heat sink, core structural component) with composite end caps
  • Steering wheel designed by Polyphony Digital: Tactile rubber grip with OLED display and diffused RevLED strip, compact 280 mm diameter, optimized for the PlayStation interface
  • Four 5-way directional sticks: Assigned to GT7's rapid-access adjustments for traction control, brake balance, torque split, and fuel mapping

Corsair’s stated rationale was to bring those controls together with its own sim-racing chassis, gaming PCs, gaming and streaming peripherals, and monitors. The company framed the acquisition as a move toward a broader, end-to-end premium sim-racing offering, rather than simply adding a name to its brand roster. This explains Corsair’s strategic intent; it does not by itself demonstrate how successful the combination has been.

What the combination means for the product range

For players, the portfolio logic is about covering more parts of a racing setup: a chassis or cockpit, a wheelbase and steering wheel, pedals, and optional accessories such as a shifter. Corsair’s announcement establishes these as categories in the Fanatec range, but does not provide a current model-by-model compatibility guide or establish that the components are sold together as one package.

FANATEC Sim Racing CSL Steering Wheel GT3 – PC
  • Full-size GT3-style wheel: 300 mm diameter with overmolded rubber grips with 50 Shore A hardness for comfort and durability
  • Designed for Xbox: Connect this wheel to any Fanatec Direct Drive Base to enable compatibility with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Also compatible with Windows PC. PS5 and PS4 compatibility is possible if attached to a PlayStation licensed Base
  • Magnetic shifter paddles: Custom designed rocker paddle made from anodized aluminum allow up and down-shifts with one hand (possible on both sides)
  • Analog paddles: Support four switchable modes - clutch bite-point, clutch/handbrake, brake/throttle, and mappable axis mode
  • Comprehensive inputs: In addition to the shifters and clutch paddles, the wheel features nine push buttons, two Multi-Position Switches with encoders, two 2-way toggle switches, and a 7-way FunkySwitch

The acquisition also does not establish that Corsair would stop developing sim-racing products under its own name, or that every future product would use the Fanatec name. The available company announcement describes a broader portfolio strategy, not a definitive current brand-architecture policy.

What Corsair said the business and market were worth

In its September 23, 2024, announcement, Corsair reported approximately $110 million in Fanatec product sales for 2023, attributing the figure to Endor AG and identifying it as unaudited. Corsair also cited industry reports estimating the sim-racing components market at approximately $1 billion and projecting 20 percent annual growth. Those market figures were estimates cited by Corsair, not audited Corsair results or a guaranteed growth rate.

The sales figure is not a purchase price. Corsair said the deal’s financial terms were not disclosed, so the cited 2023 sales do not establish how much Corsair paid.

What has happened since the deal

Integration status

Corsair’s full-year 2024 results said Fanatec integration was going well. That is a dated statement from management, not a measurement of whether integration is now complete. The available announcements do not establish the full operational status as of October 8, 2026.

Fanatec and Formula 1

In 2026, Corsair announced a new multi-year global licensing partnership between Fanatec and Formula 1, covering new officially licensed products. Corsair also said Fanatec continues as an official sponsor of the F1 Sim Racing World Championship. The announcement confirms the partnership, but does not name specific new products or establish their availability or prices.

What this means if you are choosing sim-racing hardware

The acquisition makes Fanatec part of Corsair’s wider gaming portfolio, but it does not answer whether a particular wheelbase, steering wheel or pedal set suits your setup. Before buying, check the specifications for the exact components you plan to use:
