If Roblox can’t access your camera during an age check, allow camera access for the app or browser handling the verification, then restart the flow. If you started on a device without a camera, scan Roblox’s QR code with a camera-equipped phone to continue age estimation. Eligible users can also verify with a government-issued photo ID, but that option still requires a camera.
First, identify which app needs camera access
Camera permission applies to the app or browser running the verification—not necessarily to Roblox generally. If you opened the flow in a browser, check that browser’s permission for Roblox; if you are using the Roblox app, check the app’s camera permission in your device settings. Roblox says a previously blocked camera permission can be changed in the device’s application settings: Roblox camera permission guidance.
- Note whether the verification is open in the Roblox mobile app, a desktop app, or a web browser.
- Open your device’s privacy or application settings and allow camera access for that app. In a browser, also allow camera access for Roblox in the browser’s site permissions.
- Close and reopen the verification flow after changing the permission. Restarting is a practical troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
On Windows, check camera privacy settings
Microsoft recommends checking both device-level camera access and access for desktop apps. Open Settings > Privacy > Camera, then confirm camera access is enabled for the device and for desktop apps where applicable. You can also open the Windows Camera app: if the camera fails there too, the issue may not be specific to Roblox.

If the device has no camera, continue on a phone
Roblox documents a QR-code handoff for users who start age estimation on a device without a camera. Scan the code using a camera-equipped mobile device to continue the age-estimation process there. This changes the device used for the same method; it is not a separate verification method. Roblox’s Facial Age Estimation instructions explain the handoff.
Choose between age estimation and ID verification
Roblox documents two age-check routes. Both require camera access, but they involve different image capture and eligibility:

Roblox describes the ID option and its camera steps in its age ID verification instructions. Choose the route you are eligible for and comfortable completing.
If permission is allowed but verification still fails
- Test the camera in your device’s built-in camera app, if available. This can help distinguish a device-wide camera problem from an app-specific permission issue.
- Confirm you changed permission for the exact app or browser running the verification, then reopen the flow.
- If the error continues, contact Roblox Support. Include your device, operating system, app or browser, and the exact error message. The published guidance does not establish one fix for every persistent age-check camera failure.
What happens if you leave the age check incomplete?
Roblox’s safety FAQ says users who do not complete an age check do not have access to chat features. Requirements and rollout can vary, so consult Roblox’s current age-check FAQ for the latest availability and rules.

What Roblox says about image handling
Roblox’s Facial Age Estimation page identifies Persona as the image and video processing vendor and says images and video are deleted after processing and Roblox does not sell users’ image data. Those are Roblox’s statements about its process, not an independent audit.
