If the level above your character in the Fortnite Lobby dropped to 1 but your Locker items are still there, Epic Games says a new Season has started in the Fortnite Experience you are playing. That is a seasonal reset, not a loss. Your overall Account Level is not affected. If your purchases or progress are missing as well, the cause is different and is usually an account issue, which is covered below.
Two different numbers that look alike
The level shown above your character in the Lobby is seasonal. It tracks the Battle Pass level for the Season you are playing. Epic’s support article “What is the Fortnite Account Level and how can I increase it?” defines Account Level separately, as the combined levels you have gained across seasons. Keeping those two numbers apart explains most of the confusion.

Why a seasonal reset does not remove your items
Epic’s support article “Why was the level in the Fortnite Lobby above my character reset to Level 1 but my progress and items are still on my account?” states:
“If the level you see in the Lobby screen above your character is reset to level 1, and you still have all your items in the Locker, a new Season in the Fortnite Experience you’re playing has started.”

Only the Battle Pass level resets each Season. Epic’s article “Can I reset my career level in Fortnite?” says the same, and it is the reason your Account Level remains visible in the Careers tab after the reset. The explanation applies only when your Locker items are still present. If items are missing, do not assume it is a routine reset.
When purchases and progress are missing
Epic’s support article “I was reset to Level 1 and my progress is gone. Was my account deleted?” explains that your player data is associated with an Epic Games account, not with the console account alone. Two situations cause the problem most often:

- You are signed into the wrong Epic account. Your progress and purchases sit on the account that holds your data. A different account will show a level of 1 with an empty Locker.
- The console account is no longer linked to your Epic account. You may then be prompted to sign in or create an account. If you choose to create a new account, you end up playing on an account with no prior data.
Confirm which account you are using
- Check that the email address or external sign-in method you use belongs to the Epic account you expect to hold your data.
- Confirm that your console account is linked to that Epic account. Do this before you change anything else.
- If you have more than one Epic account, do not assume which one is linked. Check each one.
Epic’s relinking sequence
Epic’s guidance describes the following sequence for a console account that has been linked to the wrong Epic account. Use the navigation shown in Epic Support at the time you are working, because menu labels and screens can change.
- Sign in with your console account. If prompted, register an Epic account and verify its email address.
- Unlink the console account from the newly created account that has no data.
- Sign in, then link the console account to the Epic account that holds your progress.
Do not unlink accounts casually. Unlinking the wrong account can make the problem harder to trace. Follow Epic’s account-specific instructions and confirm which account holds your data before you start.
When to contact Epic Support
If you complete the steps and still cannot see your progress, and you are certain you are signed into the correct account, Epic says to submit a support ticket through Epic Support. Include the Epic account you believe holds your data and a description of what is missing.
