A Steam Suspicious Content alert means Steam Support classified something posted or upvoted from your account as suspicious. The notice is not proof that your account was stolen, but it does mean you need to check the content it cites before doing anything else. Whether you recognize that content decides the next step.
What the alert means
Steam’s Suspicious Content support page states: “If you received a Suspicious Content account alert, Steam Support classified something posted or upvoted by your account as suspicious.” The page is published by Steam Support (Valve) and does not display a named author or publication date.
The flagged item can be a link, a message, or another piece of content associated with account theft, scams, phishing, or other malicious or illegal activity. Steam says the alert should reference the specific content, so the notice should tell you what was flagged.
The alert alone does not prove the account was compromised. If you do not recognize the content, Steam notes that someone with access to the account may have posted or upvoted it. Treat the alert as a prompt to check, not a verdict on your account.

Step one: find the content the notice cites
- Open the notice through Steam Support, using the official Steam site rather than a link sent to you by someone else.
- Identify the specific post, vote, or other item the alert references.
- Decide whether you recognize that item. This determines which path below applies.
Do not rely on a direct message about the alert. Steam warns that a message claiming you were falsely reported and must act urgently to save your account is a scam.
If you recognize the content
If the content is yours, or you can see that it was posted by you, the alert is about a conduct issue rather than theft. Use these steps:
Rank #2
- Review Steam’s Online Conduct Agreement and Community Rules & Guidelines against the flagged content.
- If you believe Steam classified the content incorrectly, contact Steam Support and ask about restoring access to Steam Community features.
If you do not recognize the content
An unfamiliar post or vote means someone else may have used your account. Work through these steps in order. Steam’s stolen-account guidance specifically warns that the email account is a route back in, so secure it before you try to recover Steam.
- Scan the computer you use for Steam with antivirus or anti-malware software to look for adware, viruses, keyloggers, and spyware. These can capture your credentials even if your password is strong.
- Secure the email account associated with your Steam account by changing its password. A compromised email can let a hijacker regain access to Steam or interfere with Support.
- Follow Steam’s account-security recommendations for your account.
- Contact Steam Support once the computer and email are secure, to recover the account and address the lock.
Steam’s recommended order is to scan the computer, change the email password, and only then recover the Steam account.

Steam Guard and account recovery
Steam Guard sign-in codes
Steam Guard asks for a special code when you sign in from a device it does not recognize. Depending on your settings, the code is delivered by email or through the Steam Mobile app.
Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator
The Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator is a feature of the Steam Mobile app. It can confirm sign-ins and generate codes. According to Steam, each code changes every 30 seconds and can be used only once.

- Store the authenticator recovery code somewhere safe. You will need it if you lose access to your phone.
- Never share your password or Steam Guard codes with anyone.
Recognizing genuine Steam sites and support
Steam lists steampowered.com and steamcommunity.com as its official websites for entering credentials. Check the address bar before you sign in anywhere.
- Steam Support representatives will never ask for your password.
- Do not share a Steam Guard code, and do not enter one on a site not run by Valve.
- If a message asks for your password or code, treat it as suspicious, even if it looks official.
Fake “false report” messages
Steam says profile reporting is the preferred way to report a scammer, hijacker, or phisher, because a profile report gives moderators information about the interaction. Steam also says that automated or malicious mass reports do not by themselves make an account unsafe.
Best Value

- The Steam Deck is outfitted with a 7-inch touchscreen, and two trackpads under the control sticks that allow gamers to operate games never designed outside of mouse and keyboard capabilities.
A message claiming “you were falsely reported, act now to save your account” is a scam. If you receive one:
