Roblox says the platform is “free to join and play.” A payment prompt usually applies to a specific optional purchase—such as Robux, an item, access to one experience, or a subscription—not a fee required to use Roblox as a whole.
Is Roblox free to play?
Yes. Roblox is a platform where users can play experiences made by creators, and ordinary access to the platform is free. Some experiences offer paid features or charge for access, but those terms apply to that particular experience rather than Roblox overall. Roblox’s overview describes the platform as free to join and play.
You do not need Robux just to have a Roblox account or play experiences that are available without a purchase. If a screen asks for payment, check what it says you are buying before proceeding.
Why is Roblox asking me to pay?
The prompt may be for one of several different purchases. Check whether it is a one-time charge or a recurring subscription, what benefit it provides, and whether you need it for the experience you want to play.
