If GOG says PayPal is currently unavailable, its support page identifies script-blocking browser extensions as the most likely cause of this specific message. Allow the payment-related domains GOG names, then retry checkout. If PayPal still does not appear, your checkout country may not support it.
What GOG’s error means
GOG’s support article titles the message “PayPal – Selected payment method is currently unavailable, please choose a different one.” The wording in the support title is “currently unavailable”; “not currently available” is a common way users describe the same problem.
For this specific PayPal error, GOG points first to browser add-ons that block scripts, citing NoScript as an example. It says it does not support those plugins. GOG’s PayPal troubleshooting article names two domains to add to the extension’s trusted or allowed list: braintree-api.com and braintreegateway.com.
Try allowing the payment scripts
- Open the settings for the script-blocking extension you use, such as NoScript.
- Add
braintree-api.comandbraintreegateway.comto its trusted or allowed list. - Return to GOG checkout and check whether PayPal is available. GOG presents this as a possible workaround, not a guarantee that it will fix every case.
If PayPal is still unavailable
Check country availability
GOG says the payment methods shown at checkout depend on whether the country associated with your IP address supports each method. Its payment-methods article lists PayPal among the supported methods, but availability can vary by country. This is a separate possibility from the script-blocking cause GOG identifies for the specific error.

Separate a missing option from a declined payment
If PayPal never appears as an option, start with the extension settings and country availability. If you submitted a payment and it failed, GOG says the cause may be outside its control, including bank authorization. Its payment-problems guidance recommends checking with your bank when appropriate. Contact GOG support if your bank sees no payment attempt or the issue otherwise needs GOG’s help.

In a December 2020 forum thread, a user with the same symptom reported that allowing blocked scripts made PayPal reappear; other posters said checkout was working for them.
