March 7th named herself after the date she considers her rebirth. According to a fan-run HoYoLAB post, she awoke inside a piece of drifting eternal ice with no memory of herself or her past, and the date of that awakening became her name. The explanation covers the name, but it does not reveal who she was before the ice.
What the source says about the name
The clearest statement comes from a community character post in the Honkai: Star Rail Astral Express community on HoYoLAB, titled “March Character Companionship Post 3” and dated 3 April 2024. It was written by the community member TrailblazerFirefly, not by miHoYo or HoYoverse staff, so it should be read as fan-facing character context rather than an official lore release. The relevant sentence reads:
“She was awakened from a piece of drifting eternal ice where she found out that she knows nothing about herself or her past, so she ended up naming herself March 7th, the day of her rebirth.”
In other words, “March 7th” is a name she picked for herself, and the date refers to the day she began a new life after waking up. It is not a reference to a real-world calendar event or to a former identity.

What the name does not explain
- Her original identity. The post says she did not know herself or her past when she woke, but it does not name who she was.
- Why she was in the ice. The post does not explain who put her there or how she came to be encased in it.
- Whether the date has a deeper meaning. The post presents the date as the day of her rebirth. It does not link the date to any other event in the game’s story.
Readers who want a fuller account of her backstory should treat those questions as open based on the sources reviewed here, and should be wary of fan theories presented as established canon.
Confirming her role in the game
HoYoWiki’s character profile for March 7th, checked on 8 October 2026, identifies her as a Honkai: Star Rail character and lists her affiliation with the Astral Express. The same profile lists her playable Paths as Preservation and The Hunt. That page confirms her role and combat identity, not the origin of her name.

Why the answer is narrower than it looks
The HoYoLAB post is the only source reviewed that addresses the naming directly, and it is a single community write-up from April 2024. No official developer statement about the name was found in the sources reviewed, so the explanation should be presented as what the character post says, not as a confirmed statement from the game’s developer. If later official story content has addressed her past in more detail, it would not be reflected in the sources cited here.
