Team Cherry’s “we’ll find out tomorrow” moment has already passed: the studio announced Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date on August 21, 2025, and the game launched on September 4, 2025. The long stretches of limited updates reflected, in part, that the developers had little useful to report beyond that they were still working on it, according to PC Gamer’s account. The project had also grown from a planned Hornet DLC into a standalone game.
What was Team Cherry’s “tomorrow” announcement?
On August 19, 2025, Team Cherry asked fans to “Join us in 48 hours for a special announcement about Hollow Knight: Silksong!” The promised announcement arrived on August 21: a release date of September 4, 2025. Silksong is now released, so the original “we’ll find out tomorrow” headline refers to a past announcement, not an upcoming reveal.

Why was Team Cherry so quiet about Silksong?
PC Gamer’s August 21, 2025 report attributed the studio’s sparse routine updates to the limited value of repeatedly telling fans that development was still underway. Its headline summarized the explanation as “All we could really say is, we’re still working on it”. This is PC Gamer’s account of the developers’ explanation; it should not be treated as a directly verified transcript quote from a named developer.

That explanation points to a practical communication choice: when there is no meaningful milestone or new detail to share, frequent updates can amount to repeating the same status. It does not establish every reason for the studio’s communication decisions, or mean that no work was happening during quiet periods.
How did the planned DLC become a full game?
In its 2019 reveal, Team Cherry said the Hornet adventure began as planned DLC for Hollow Knight, but “quickly became too large and too unique to stay a DLC, as initially planned.” The studio presented Silksong as a full-scale sequel. That change in scope helps explain why the project became a substantial standalone release, though it does not by itself prove why the team chose to communicate infrequently.

The same 2019 post described Team Cherry as a three-person team at that time. That is historical context, not confirmation of the studio’s current headcount. In an interview published by ACMI on September 5, 2025, the developers also discussed how Hornet’s different movement and abilities called for a new world and helped lead to a standalone game.

What has Team Cherry announced since launch?
In a December 15, 2025 post, Team Cherry announced Sea of Sorrow, a nautically themed expansion planned to be free and coming in 2026. The post did not give a specific day or month. Its timing should therefore be described as a 2026 window unless a later official announcement confirms a more precise date.
The same post said more than seven million people had purchased Silksong, with millions more playing through Xbox Game Pass. Those are figures reported by Team Cherry in 2025, not independently audited totals; Game Pass players should not be counted as purchasers. The studio’s announcement also mentioned character mini-figures with Studio Tyto and Fangamer.
