Minecraft’s official support material does not name one cause for a slow-opening launcher, and it does not publish a normal startup time to compare against. What it does provide is a short set of checks: confirm the launcher is up to date, make sure the right Microsoft account is signed in everywhere, reinstall the launcher if the problem persists, and, when the game crashes after you press Play, test with a fresh Java installation. Start by working out which stage is actually slow, because each stage calls for a different first check.
First, identify which stage is slow
“Taking a long time to open” can describe three different events. Treating them as one problem is the most common reason people try the wrong fix.

Phrases such as “Minecraft Launcher taking a long time to load” and “launcher stuck at loading” are common in community posts. They describe symptoms rather than confirmed causes, so they usually fit one of the stages above. The Java installation test below applies only to crashes after Play. It is not a diagnostic for a slow launcher window.
Checks to run, in order

Check for launcher updates. Minecraft’s download page states: “The Minecraft Launcher should automatically update when you start the software.” If you are on Windows and the launcher has not updated itself, open the Microsoft Store, go to Library, and update it from there. Confirm the account. Minecraft Help specifically says to use the Microsoft account that holds a Minecraft license in the Launcher, the Microsoft Store app, and the Xbox app. Signing in with a different account in one of these places is one of the problem areas the official article names. Reinstall the launcher. If the delay continues, Minecraft Help recommends uninstalling and then reinstalling the launcher so its required files are freshly installed. The official download page lists the Microsoft Store and the Minecraft download page as installation routes. Use one of these, not a copy from another source. Test a fresh Java installation if the game crashes after Play. This applies only when the launcher opens and Java Edition then fails after you select Play. Create a new Java installation using the same game version. If the game starts with the new installation, the official guidance points toward the mods or advanced settings in the old installation as the next thing to examine. If the launcher came from the Microsoft Store
Microsoft’s general guidance for apps from its store covers troubleshooting steps and says repair or reset options may be available, depending on the app. Use those built-in options for the Store copy of the launcher before changing anything else on the computer. What the official sources do not establish
- No single cause for a slow launcher window. Missing dependencies and inconsistent account sign-in are named as common problem areas, not as a diagnosis of any particular computer.
- No normal startup time. The official material gives no number of seconds or minutes that a launcher should take, so a long wait cannot be measured against an official benchmark.
- No proof that one installation route is faster. The sources list the Microsoft Store and the download page as routes, but they do not say either one opens the launcher more quickly.
- No guaranteed fix. The steps above are the checks the official articles describe. They are not a promise that the delay will end.
If the delay continues after these checks, note which stage stalls, the version you installed, and the route you installed from. Those details are the ones that separate the cases the official articles cover from the cases they do not.
