If Ubisoft Connect PC—the app many players still call the Ubisoft Launcher—keeps closing, Ubisoft’s guidance does not identify one universal cause. A stale or damaged cache, an outdated installation, software interference, blocked connectivity, or a service outage can all be relevant. Start by identifying whether the app itself is closing, one game is crashing, or Connect is reporting a service or connection problem; each calls for a different fix.
First, identify what is failing
Watch what happens when the problem occurs. If the Ubisoft Connect window disappears or the app stops responding, troubleshoot the launcher. If Connect stays open but one game crashes or will not start, troubleshoot that game’s files. If Connect displays a service-unavailable or connection error, check Ubisoft’s service status and connectivity guidance before changing local files.
| What you see | Where to start |
|---|---|
| Ubisoft Connect itself closes or fails to open | Rename its cache folders; if needed, update or reinstall the app. |
| Connect stays open, but one game crashes or will not launch | Verify that game’s files in the platform that manages it. |
| A service-unavailable or connection message appears | Check Ubisoft Help for outages or service degradations, then use its connectivity steps. |
| Overlay or launch behavior changes when other apps are running | Test with background applications closed and check whether security software is blocking Connect. |
Check for a Ubisoft service outage
If Connect says “A Ubisoft service is not available at the moment,” first check Ubisoft Help for a current outage or service degradation. Availability changes, so a status check is more useful than assuming the problem is on your PC. If no issue is listed, follow Ubisoft’s PC connectivity troubleshooting.
Reset Ubisoft Connect’s cache
For an app-level crash, Ubisoft documents renaming the cache folders as a first troubleshooting step. Its support article says, “Emptying the caches of Ubisoft Connect PC can help resolve some technical issues.” This may help, but it is not a guaranteed fix.

- Log out of Ubisoft Connect, then close it completely. Check the system tray and make sure no background instance remains open.
- Open each of these default Windows locations:
C:Program Files (x86)UbisoftUbisoft Game LaunchercacheandC:Users<Username>AppDataLocalUbisoft Game Launchercache. Replace<Username>with your Windows account name. The AppData folder may be hidden in File Explorer. - Rename each folder named
cache, for example tocache_backup. Renaming preserves the old folder rather than deleting it. - Start Ubisoft Connect again. The app recreates fresh cache folders automatically.
These steps follow Ubisoft’s cache instructions.
Update Connect and test for software interference
An old app version or another program interfering with Connect can contribute to launch or overlay problems. Ubisoft recommends using the latest app version, testing with background applications disabled, and checking whether a firewall or antivirus is blocking Connect.
- Make sure Ubisoft Connect is online and able to update. Ubisoft says automatic app updates are not installed while the app is in offline mode, so an offline session may leave you on an older version.
- Temporarily close background applications and try launching Connect or the game again. If the behavior changes, reopen programs selectively to identify a conflict.
- Check your security software’s settings or notifications to see whether it has blocked Ubisoft Connect. Avoid leaving protections disabled or adding broad permanent exclusions just to test.
Ubisoft’s recommendations are in its overlay troubleshooting guidance.

Verify files when one game crashes
If Connect itself remains open and only a particular game crashes or refuses to start, verify that game’s files rather than treating it as a launcher crash. Ubisoft says verification can restore missing or corrupted game files. Use the platform that manages the game:
- In Ubisoft Connect, open Library and select the game.
- Select the cog next to Play, then choose Verify files.
- If the game is managed through Steam or Epic Games, use that platform’s file-verification feature instead.
See Ubisoft’s game-file verification instructions.

Reinstall Connect only if simpler steps fail
If the app still crashes after the cache reset and update checks, reinstalling is a later option. Protect your local progress before removing anything: Ubisoft advises closing Connect and backing up save files first. Its uninstall flow lets you choose whether to keep or remove installed games and local save files, so review those choices carefully.
- Close Ubisoft Connect and back up your save files.
- Uninstall Ubisoft Connect, paying attention to the options for installed games and local saves.
- Follow Ubisoft’s instructions about removing the installation Cache folder, then download and install Connect using the current installer linked from Ubisoft Help.
- Restart your PC after installing, as Ubisoft recommends.
Use Ubisoft’s current installation and reinstallation instructions; do not casually delete local save data.

When to contact Ubisoft Support
If connection problems persist after checking service availability and following Ubisoft’s network guidance, open a support case and attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports. Those system reports give support diagnostic details that cannot be inferred from the fact that Connect crashes alone. Ubisoft lists them in its PC connectivity troubleshooting guide.
