Epic Games permanently banned FaZe Jarvis from Fortnite in November 2019 after videos showed him using an aimbot, a cheat that automates or improves a player’s aim. Jarvis said he used it to make videos and not in competitive play; Epic’s stated position was that cheat software warranted a zero-tolerance response.
What happened to FaZe Jarvis?
In early November 2019, Epic Games, Fortnite’s developer, imposed a reported permanent ban on Jarvis Khattri, widely known as FaZe Jarvis. The decision followed videos showing him using a third-party aimbot in Fortnite. Contemporary reports described the footage as involving Solos and Playground rather than competitive play.
An aimbot automates or improves aiming, giving its user an unfair advantage. The reported game modes provide context, but do not mean the use of cheat software was permitted.
What did Jarvis say about the aimbot?
Jarvis apologized publicly and said he had not expected to receive a lifetime ban. He described using the aimbot to create video content and said he had not used it in a competitive game mode. Those are Jarvis’s explanations; they do not independently establish his motives or the full extent of his conduct.

Why did Epic impose a permanent ban?
Epic’s stated position was that it had a zero-tolerance policy for cheat software. Ars Technica reported the company’s statement: “We have a zero tolerance policy for the usage of cheat software.” Epic did not frame the reported ban as exempt from its anti-cheating rules because the footage involved noncompetitive modes.
Was the punishment proportionate?
The dispute turns on the difference between the rule Epic said it enforced and the context Jarvis gave for his actions. Epic’s position treated cheat software as grounds for a severe penalty regardless of whether the play was competitive. Jarvis said he used the cheat for videos, not competitive play, and said he had not expected a lifetime ban.

Contemporary commentary also raised questions about consistency: whether a prominent creator should face the same consequences as an ordinary player, and whether a permanent ban was proportionate in this context. Those are questions about the fairness and application of the penalty, not evidence that Epic applied its rules differently to other players.
