Some Fortnite players objected to “Snoop’s Walk” because they saw it as resembling the Crip Walk and worried that a game popular with children was presenting a dance associated by critics with gang violence as a context-free cosmetic. Other commenters disputed that identification or welcomed the dance becoming more mainstream. The posts show a real online disagreement—not that Fortnite players broadly opposed the emote or that anyone was harmed by copying it.
What is Fortnite’s “Snoop’s Walk” emote?
“Snoop’s Walk” is a digital Fortnite emote in the Snoop Dogg set, released as part of the Snoop Dogg-themed Chapter 2 Remix content. Dexerto reported that it appeared in the Item Shop on November 2, 2024; Epic’s official item listing identifies it as an emote. Dexerto’s November 4, 2024 report and Epic’s item listing document the item.
At issue was the dance itself: critics and coverage interpreted it as resembling the Crip Walk, also called the C-Walk, while some commenters said that label was wrong. The material available does not settle the dance’s identity or establish Epic’s creative intent, licensing, or crediting decisions.
Why did some players call it a bad idea?
They objected to the gang-related associations
Critics connected the Crip Walk to the Crips and gang violence. From that perspective, putting a similar dance into a lighthearted game cosmetic—and naming it “Snoop’s Walk” rather than explaining the disputed association—could make its context easy to miss. These are critics’ interpretations and objections; the available reporting does not establish a definitive history of the dance.

They worried children might imitate it without context
Some posts focused on Fortnite’s younger audience. X user @sistertonin wrote on November 3, 2024: “Cultural awareness and education about appropriation is incredibly important. having people (especially children) inevitably recreate crip-walking is incredibly dangerous.” That is the poster’s view and prediction, not evidence that a child copied the emote in a dangerous setting or was hurt.
Other posts expressed a similar concern in more pointed terms. Know Your Meme records X user @FoolPlanet writing on November 3, “Some white kid is gonna learn a very valuable lesson when they try to recreate this 💀,” and @handsomegirly_ asking on November 2, “Don’t beat me up but like???? Is this not insane????” These examples illustrate how individual critics framed the issue; they do not establish consensus among players.

Why did other commenters disagree?
Some commenters rejected the claim that the animation was a Crip Walk, arguing instead that it was Snoop Dogg’s own way of dancing. Others accepted the association but saw mainstream circulation differently. Dexerto quoted one commenter who said that, having participated in what the dance means, it was time for it to be “watered down” so children could enjoy it.
That disagreement matters: the controversy was not simply about whether a dance appeared in Fortnite. It also concerned how people identified the movement, what significance they attached to its cultural and gang associations, and whether making it broadly accessible was harmful, harmless, or positive. The cited reporting documents competing reactions, but does not resolve those questions.

Those are historical engagement figures for selected posts, not results from a representative poll. They show that the discussion drew attention, not that most Fortnite players agreed with the criticism. Neither the reporting nor the cited posts establish that players imitated the emote in real life or that anyone suffered harm.
