Badlion was not shut down as a single service. The Badlion Network, its Minecraft multiplayer server network, closed in 2018; the Badlion Client remained operational. Today, Lunar’s official guidance says to launch Badlion through Lunar Client because the standalone Badlion launcher is no longer downloadable. Lunar’s later updates describe continuing integration of Badlion features, but they do not guarantee that access will continue indefinitely.
What does “Badlion discontinued” mean?
It can refer to two different things:
- Badlion Network: the multiplayer server network, which closed in 2018.
- Badlion Client: the Minecraft client, which remained open after the network closure and was later acquired by Lunar.
So it is inaccurate to say that all of Badlion shut down in 2018. The server network closed; the client followed a separate path.
Why did the Badlion Network close?
On May 26, 2018, Badlion owner MasterGberry said in an owner AMA that the network would close in a couple of weeks. Asked whether the client was closing too, he replied: “No Badlion Client is not closing down. We are keeping the Badlion Client open and are actively still developing it.”
The available statements establish the network’s closure and distinguish it from the client, but do not establish that financial problems or declining player numbers caused the closure.

What happened to Badlion Client after the network closed?
Lunar acquired the client
In March 2025, Lunar announced that it had acquired Badlion Client from ESL FACEIT Group. Lunar said Badlion Client would remain operational “with no interruptions for the foreseeable future.” That was the company’s statement at the time of the acquisition, not a promise of permanent availability. Lunar also said the two clients could continue to be used separately while it considered merger decisions, and that it had no plans to revive the Badlion Network. See Lunar’s acquisition announcement and FAQ.
The launcher changed
Badlion is no longer launched using its own downloadable launcher. Lunar’s Badlion product page says the client is launchable through Lunar Client. Its cloak guide says users need to download the Lunar Client launcher to use Badlion because the Badlion launcher itself is no longer downloadable.

- Open Lunar Client and choose Badlion from the available client options.
- Launch the game from there.
This is a change in how users access Badlion Client, not evidence by itself that the client has been discontinued.
Are Badlion’s features being removed?
Lunar has described transferring Badlion’s services and infrastructure and working toward feature parity. Its February and March 2026 recaps report additional Badlion-derived features, including SkyBlock features, being incorporated into Lunar. Those updates show integration work at the time they were published; they do not establish that every original Badlion feature remains available or that a standalone Badlion client will return. Lunar also said major changes would be considered and communicated, which describes its plans at that time rather than a binding long-term roadmap. The recaps are available in Lunar’s news updates.

Is Badlion shutting down for good?
Lunar’s official product and help pages describe how to access Badlion through Lunar Client, and its 2026 updates report ongoing feature integration. No definitive future end date for Badlion access is stated in those materials. That means users can follow Lunar’s current instructions, but should not treat either the acquisition-era “foreseeable future” wording or later integration updates as a guarantee of indefinite support.
Lunar reported a combined player base of more than 3 million monthly active users in its 2025 acquisition announcement. That is Lunar’s company-reported figure, not an independently verified measure of Badlion users or a reason for the network’s closure.
