If Doomfist is locked on your account, the likely reason is that you have not completed Overwatch’s new-player experience and hero-unlock progression. Blizzard says new players must complete that experience to unlock heroes; if you have already finished it and Doomfist is still locked, the public guidance does not identify the cause for an individual account.
Why is Doomfist locked?
Blizzard’s published rule ties hero access for new players to completing the new-player experience. Its developer update says new players must complete the first-time user experience to unlock heroes while learning the game. It also says that after the original Overwatch roster is unlocked, Overwatch 2 heroes become available.
Blizzard’s Season 10 announcement summarizes the rule: all past, present, and future heroes are unlocked for players who have completed the new-player experience. So if Doomfist appears locked, check whether onboarding and the associated hero progression are complete.
How to unlock Doomfist
Complete the new-player experience and hero-unlock progression shown in Overwatch. Blizzard’s cited guidance does not provide a current, universal checklist of exact tasks or a guaranteed match count, so follow the onboarding prompts and check the hero roster as you progress.

Doomfist is a playable hero in Overwatch, not a separately purchased physical item. Blizzard’s Doomfist hero page describes his character and abilities; it does not establish that buying merchandise or another physical product unlocks him.
What if Doomfist is still locked after onboarding?
The published guidance explains the new-player restriction but does not diagnose individual accounts. Verify that the new-player experience and roster progression are complete, then check whether the lock remains in the in-game hero roster. If it does, contact Blizzard support for account-specific help rather than assuming the hero is paywalled or season-pass gated.

Does Doomfist’s current story role affect the lock?
No published source connects his story role to account access. Blizzard’s Season 5 article, published for the season beginning October 6, 2026, describes Doomfist freeing Doctrine from the Grímsvötn prison, where Doomfist himself had once been held. That is story context, not an explanation for a gameplay lock.
