If Minecraft suddenly looks pink, the color alone does not identify the cause. Pink-and-black checkerboards on a custom entity or block often indicate a missing texture; widespread pink rendering can instead involve a resource-pack conflict, graphics settings, or a game-version issue. The right fix depends on your edition, platform, version, and whether packs or ray tracing are enabled.
First, narrow down what is turning pink
Note your Minecraft edition (Bedrock or Java), platform, and exact game version. Then check whether the problem affects everything or only particular custom content, and whether resource packs, add-ons, or ray tracing are enabled. These details help separate an asset-loading problem from a broader rendering issue. The official troubleshooting guidance cited below is for Bedrock; an exact Java-specific fix is not established by the sources available here.
- One custom entity or block: Check the relevant pack and asset configuration first.
- Terrain, many entities, or the environment: Investigate software updates, graphics settings, and the current game build as well as packs.
- Ray tracing enabled: Compare the same scene with ray tracing off, especially if the issue began after an update.
Try these Bedrock troubleshooting steps
Update Minecraft and your system
Minecraft Help recommends installing available updates for Minecraft, the operating system, and graphics drivers. On Windows, also check that the device meets Minecraft’s current minimum requirements. These are troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes. See Minecraft Help’s graphics troubleshooting guidance.
Test without add-ons and resource packs
Temporarily disable add-ons and resource packs, then reopen the affected world or area. If the visuals return to normal, re-enable packs one at a time and retest to identify a possible conflict. Disabling add-ons is among Minecraft Help’s recommended checks; enabling packs individually is a practical way to isolate which one may be involved.

- GIFT IDEA FOR KIDS – Makes a wonderful birthday or any-time gift idea for boys and girls
Check pack priority and duplicate assets
Bedrock resource packs can stack, and a later-applied pack can overwrite an asset with the same name. If the problem appears only with packs enabled, check for duplicate asset names and confirm that the intended pack is applied above packs that might replace it. The official resource-pack tutorial also advises checking folder and file naming.
Compare ray tracing off and on
If ray tracing is available and enabled, turn it off temporarily and test the same scene. Minecraft’s Bedrock 26.30 changelog says, “Fixed issue causing textures to appear broken when Ray Tracing is enabled.” That release note makes the setting worth checking, but it does not prove ray tracing is responsible for every pink-texture problem. Update to the latest available release before comparing modes. See the Bedrock 26.30 changelog.

If only custom content is affected
In Bedrock, Minecraft’s creator documentation describes a pink-and-black checkerboard on a custom entity as a missing-texture symptom. For custom blocks, it lists missing-texture checks as well. These checks are for Bedrock add-on creators; do not assume the same file paths or repair steps apply to Java.
For a custom entity
- Verify that the texture path points to the actual file.
- Check that the pack identifiers match.
- Confirm that the texture is a valid PNG.
- Check that the render controller references the intended texture.
For a custom block
- Confirm the texture is registered in the terrain texture definitions.
- Match texture names to the relevant files and references.
- Verify that the texture file is present and has appropriate dimensions.
Microsoft lists these checks in its documentation on troubleshooting missing entity and block textures.

When the problem persists
If the issue continues after updates and still happens with packs disabled, record your edition, platform, game version, graphics mode, and whether the affected area changes after restarting. A screenshot can help when you contact Minecraft Support or report a reproducible bug. A public Mojang tracker search result describes a user report of pink terrain-atlas and many entity or environment textures in Windows Bedrock 26.44 Hotfix with ray tracing; its status is unconfirmed, so it is not evidence of a universal defect or a confirmed fix: Mojang bug tracker search.
The sources cited here do not establish that reinstalling the game or replacing a graphics card is the default remedy. Start with updates, pack isolation, and graphics-mode comparison instead.
