Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

If the clock is correct, Epic points you to platform-specific troubleshooting for PC or console. The official guidance does not establish that this message, on its own, means a ban or a parental-control block.
Start with the device clock
Epic’s support article for this exact error begins with time synchronization. Epic’s clock guidance says the clock on a PC or console must be accurate for the device to connect to Epic’s servers. A device whose clock has drifted can fail that connection check, and the game reports the failure with a permission message instead of a clear time error.

- Sync the clock with an internet time server. On Windows 10 and 11, open Settings > Time & language > Date & time, turn on Set time automatically, and select Sync now. Confirm that the time zone is correct and that daylight-saving adjustment is handled, since an incorrect offset by an hour is enough to cause the problem.
- Use the platform instructions for consoles and mobile. Epic’s clock article links separate instructions for Windows, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS. Follow the set for your device rather than the Windows steps above.
- Restart Fortnite and try again. Relaunch the game after the clock change so it reconnects with the corrected time.
If the clock is correct, follow the platform path
When syncing does not resolve the error, Epic’s exact-error article sends you to separate Fortnite troubleshooting guides for PC and for consoles. These are not interchangeable. PC troubleshooting involves the launcher, local files, and network settings on the computer, while console troubleshooting covers the system’s own software and network options. Use the guide that matches the device you are playing on.
| Device | Where Epic sends you after the clock step | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Windows) | Epic’s Fortnite troubleshooting article for PC | Launcher and game-level fixes on the computer |
| PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch | Epic’s Fortnite troubleshooting article for the relevant console | Console-side login and connection checks |
| Android or iOS | Epic’s clock instructions for the mobile platform, then the troubleshooting article for that platform | Device time settings and game connection checks |
When the problem looks like a wider connection failure
If you are also seeing launcher login failures, matchmaking that never starts, or game-server connection errors, Epic’s general connection article applies. Treat its list as a set of general network steps rather than a confirmed fix for this specific message. The steps Epic lists are:

- Restart the modem or router.
- Switch the device to a public DNS server.
- Sync the device clock.
- Check that the required domains are not blocked.
- Reset the device cache.
- Update Windows.
- Check whether a proxy is enabled and turn it off if it is not needed.
- Flush the DNS cache.
- Close background applications that use the network.
If these steps do not resolve the problem, Epic’s general guide recommends contacting the manufacturer of your hardware.
What the message does not tell you
The error-specific article does not describe account enforcement, age restrictions, or parental-control settings, and it does not report a live service incident. A “no permission” wording can look like a ban, but the official documentation does not establish that meaning. Do not assume a ban or restriction from this message alone. If the clock and platform steps fail and you believe your account is affected, the question depends on account-specific information, so the next step is to contact Epic Games Support through its official support channels and provide the device, platform, and the steps you already tried.

Summary of the order to work through
Epic’s guidance runs in a fixed order: correct the device clock, then follow the PC or console troubleshooting article for your platform, then use the general connection steps if you are seeing wider network problems, and finally contact your hardware manufacturer when those steps are exhausted. Epic has not published a date on these support pages in the versions reviewed, so check the current versions on Epic’s support site if a step does not match what you see on screen.
Epic Games Support states: “The clock on your PC or console must be accurate in order for Epic Games to connect to servers.”
