Nintendo’s official Kirby character page says Kirby is eight inches tall. It does not explain why that height was chosen, so any claim about the creators’ reasoning would be speculation unless supported by a direct source.
Where does Nintendo say Kirby is eight inches tall?
Nintendo’s official Kirby character page describes him as eight inches tall: “He may only be eight inches tall, but you should never underestimate this little pink hero.” The same page identifies Kirby as being from Planet Pop Star and describes his elastic body and ability to absorb enemies. Why did the creators choose eight inches?
The available official character information gives Kirby’s height but does not explain the choice. The official Japanese Kirby page provides character and adventure information without a height rationale in the material available. There is therefore no confirmed basis here for saying the number came from a design decision, gameplay constraint, or marketing plan.
Does Kirby look taller or shorter in some games?
His apparent size can seem inconsistent from one game scene to another, but visual impressions are not evidence that Nintendo changed his stated height. The fan discussion documenting that perception does not establish a formal canon change or a reliable game-by-game scale comparison. Fan discussion about Kirby’s stated height

Does a 10-inch Kirby plush mean he is actually 10 inches tall?
No. Nintendo’s US store lists a “Kirby™ 10" Plush” made by Little Buddy. That describes the merchandise item, not Kirby’s canonical height or a to-scale replica; product availability can change. Nintendo US store listing
