Lúcio’s Speed Boost is good because it lets him help nearby teammates move faster, giving the team a way to reposition, close distance, or get out of danger together. It is one of two Crossfade songs, so Lúcio must weigh that movement utility against Healing Boost as the fight changes.
What Speed Boost does
Blizzard describes Crossfade as a choice between two songs: Healing Boost heals nearby allies, while Speed Boost makes nearby allies move faster. Amp It Up increases the effectiveness of whichever song Lúcio currently has selected. Blizzard’s Lúcio hero page does not establish a current numeric speed bonus or aura radius, so historical figures should not be treated as today’s values.

Speed Boost is utility, not damage: it changes how quickly allies can move rather than directly harming an opponent. That makes its value depend on what the team needs and whether allies are close enough to receive the effect.
How the extra movement can help a team
Repositioning and rotations
A team moving faster can rotate toward a different position or regroup more quickly. Speed Boost can help allies make that move together, but it does not guarantee a safe route or a favorable fight.

Closing distance
When allies need to approach an opponent or contest an area, the added movement can help them close the gap. The benefit is practical rather than automatic: timing, team positioning, and the opponent’s response still matter.
Disengaging
If a fight turns dangerous, Lúcio can switch to Speed Boost to help nearby allies retreat or create space. This can support an escape, but it cannot ensure that every teammate gets away.

When to choose Speed Boost over Healing Boost
Crossfade makes the choice situational. Consider three questions:
- What is the immediate need? Choose movement when the team needs to move in, rotate, regroup, or withdraw; choose Healing Boost when nearby allies need its healing.
- How many teammates are nearby? The song affects nearby allies, so its team value depends partly on who is within range.
- Is the team moving in or out? Speed Boost may support either an approach or a retreat; the right use depends on the direction and timing of the team’s play.
These are practical decisions derived from the ability’s described effects, not a Blizzard-published ranking of when the song is best.

What Amp It Up adds
Amp It Up strengthens the song Lúcio has selected. Activate it with Speed Boost selected when the team needs stronger movement support; with Healing Boost selected, it strengthens that song instead. Its effect therefore depends on the Crossfade choice at the time.

- On March 19, 2019, Blizzard reduced Crossfade’s Speed Boost effect from 30% to 20% and reduced Speed Boost amplification from Amp It Up from 70% to 50%. The developer comment said teammate speed was too strong, particularly for high-health, low-range heroes. Blizzard also increased Lúcio’s Wall Ride speed buff from 20% to 40% in that patch. - On July 24, 2018, Blizzard increased Crossfade’s aura radius from 10 to 12 meters, noting that allies could be difficult to keep in range after an earlier radius reduction. Those figures are historical, not confirmation of the current radius. July 24, 2018 patch notes
The live patch-notes page is useful for current update context, but the available official description does not establish a current Speed Boost percentage, aura radius, or measured win-rate effect. Overwatch Retail Patch Notes
