If no update appears, restart the device, check your internet connection, and confirm whether the newest release is available for your platform. Windows players should also check Microsoft Store and Gaming Services; a Switch player may simply be waiting for a release that has not reached Switch.
Is your Minecraft version actually out of date?
As of October 8, 2026, the Minecraft Wiki lists Bedrock 26.51 as a hotfix released on September 15 for Windows and PlayStation and September 16 for the remaining devices except Nintendo Switch. The release followed 26.50, titled “Wilderness Bound.” The Wiki also has an entry for 26.70, but its release status has not been verified here, so check the current version history before treating 26.51 as the newest build. In particular, not seeing 26.51 on Switch does not by itself mean your console is broken: it was not released there at launch. Release timing can vary by platform, and the store may not offer a build until it is available for that device.
How to check for a Bedrock update on your platform
Menu names can vary with system software versions. If the labels below differ, look for the game’s update command in its store, library, or system menu.

Windows: Microsoft Store
- Open Microsoft Store, then select Library.
- Select Get Updates and let the Store check for available updates. Install any Minecraft update it offers.
- If you use Minecraft Launcher, check that it is set to Latest Release. The exact location of that setting may vary.
Xbox
- Open My Games & Apps and highlight Minecraft.
- Press the Menu button, then choose Manage Game and Add-Ons.
- Open Updates and install any available update.
If Xbox is not downloading updates or connecting, check Xbox Live Status for service issues or maintenance.
PlayStation
- Highlight Minecraft in your Game Library.
- Press Options, then select Check for Updates.
- If an update is available but does not start, restart the console and check again.
Nintendo Switch
- Highlight Minecraft on the Home screen.
- Press +, then choose the software update option.
- If the update is not offered, check for pending downloads and try again later.
Switch games commonly update automatically while the console is online, sometimes in the background. A release that has not yet reached Switch will not appear as an available update.

Android
- Open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon.
- Choose Manage apps & device, then Updates available.
- Tap Update next to Minecraft if it appears.
iPhone and iPad
- Open the App Store and tap your profile icon.
- Pull down on the account page to refresh pending updates.
- Tap Update next to Minecraft if it appears.
If the update is missing or will not download
Try these checks before using Windows repair commands or reinstalling the game:
- Restart your device, then check for the update again.
- Confirm that your internet connection is working reliably.
- Install pending operating-system updates and update the relevant app store.
- On Xbox, check service status before assuming the problem is local to the console.
- If the game is on Switch, consider whether the release has reached that platform yet.
These steps address common causes such as an update check that did not run, a stalled queue, connectivity trouble, or platform release timing. If the store still cannot fetch an update on Windows, the Store cache is a useful next check.

Windows download stuck at 0% or 99%? Clear the Store cache
- Press Windows key + R to open Run.
- Type
wsreset.exeand press Enter. This clears the Microsoft Store cache. - When the process finishes, reopen Microsoft Store, go to Library, select Get Updates, and retry the Minecraft update.
If that does not help, try signing out of Microsoft Store and back in, running the Windows apps troubleshooter, installing pending Windows updates, or running sfc /scannow in Command Prompt. Save more invasive repair steps for when these simpler checks fail.
What to do about Microsoft Store error 0X80073CFB
Error 0X80073CFB during a Minecraft update has been associated with Microsoft Store or Gaming Services problems. A Microsoft Q&A advisor recommended steps involving removing and reinstalling Gaming Services and updating the Xbox app through PowerShell. Those operations affect Windows components: follow the thread’s instructions carefully rather than copying commands from an unrelated guide, and back up your Minecraft worlds before changing or reinstalling game components. Microsoft Q&A discussions also describe uninstalling Minecraft Bedrock and the Minecraft Launcher, running sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth in an administrator Command Prompt, restarting, and then reinstalling. Treat this as a last resort, not the first fix: uninstalling can put local worlds at risk if they are not backed up.
Can’t join a Realm because of an incompatible version?
An incompatible-version message usually means your game and the Realm are not on matching releases. Check for and install the update available for your platform, then restart Minecraft and try joining again. If your platform has not received the relevant release yet, you may need to wait; reinstalling the game cannot make a not-yet-available platform update appear.
