Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Their main gaming connection normally depends on a USB transmitter, base station, LIGHTSPEED link, or USB cable. The quickest fix is to connect that hardware directly to the PC, select PC mode, choose the correct ASTRO output and microphone devices in Windows, then power-cycle the transmitter or base station.
The exact procedure depends on whether you have an A20, A20 X, A50, A50 X, or A50 Gen 5.
Try these five fixes first
- Connect the transmitter or base station directly to the PC—preferably a rear motherboard USB port on a desktop. Do not use a USB hub, monitor passthrough, keyboard port, or unpowered adapter while troubleshooting. Logitech specifically recommends a direct motherboard connection for the A50 X. See Logitech’s A50 X USB guidance.
- Switch the transmitter or base station to PC mode. A console-mode setting can leave the hardware powered while preventing the expected PC audio path.
- Power-cycle the transmitter or base station, then restart Windows.
- Open Settings > System > Sound and select the model’s Game device for output and its Mic Out or Voice device for input.
- Use Logitech G HUB or ASTRO Command Center only when appropriate for your model. Do not install an old firmware utility indiscriminately.
First, identify what “not connecting” means
Different symptoms point to different fixes:
- No lights, charging, or power: check power, the dock, charging contacts, and the headset battery before changing Windows settings.
- Lights are on, but Windows sees nothing: suspect PC mode, USB ports, cables, hubs, or the transmitter/base station.
- Windows detects ASTRO, but there is no sound: Windows is probably using speakers, monitor audio, or another headset.
- Game audio works, but the microphone does not: check the selected input, Windows microphone permissions, the game’s voice-chat setting, and the headset’s mute control.
- G HUB does not detect it: G HUB detection is separate from basic Windows audio detection.
- It repeatedly disconnects: investigate USB power, hubs, cables, firmware, sleep/resume behavior, and the base station.
Use the correct connection for your model
| Model | PC connection | Windows devices to select |
|---|---|---|
| A20 Gen 2 | USB transmitter connected directly to the PC | ASTRO A20 Game for playback; ASTRO A20 Voice for communications and recording |
| A20 X | PLAYSYNC wireless connection or USB-wired mode | Names can vary by connection mode |
| A50 Gen 3 and older A50 | USB-connected base station with the headset docked and synchronized | Names vary by generation |
| A50 X | PLAYSYNC base station with the required USB and power connections | A50 X Game for output; A50 X Mic Out for microphone |
| A50 Gen 5 | PLAYSYNC base station | A50 Game for output; A50 Mic Out for microphone |
If Windows does not detect the ASTRO device
1. Remove the USB middlemen
Disconnect the hub, monitor, keyboard, adapter, and other nonessential USB devices temporarily. Plug the ASTRO hardware directly into another USB port. On a desktop, a rear motherboard port is the best diagnostic baseline. On a laptop, use a data-capable port and avoid assuming that every USB-C cable carries data; some are charging-only.
For an A20, make sure the transmitter is connected. Plugging in only the headset’s charging cable does not provide the A20’s normal wireless PC connection.
#1 Best Overall
- Extended wireless range up to 15m (50ft) through the 2.4 GHz wireless signal.
- On-device audio balancing between voice chat and game audio on Xbox or PC
- Console specific USB transmitter for easy cross-platform compatibility.
- Built-in battery provides more than 15 hours of battery life and can be recharged through the USB-C port.
- Quick and easy mute functionality with the flip-to-mute microphone.
For an A50 or A50 X, confirm that the base station has its required power and USB connections. Inspect the cable and connectors for looseness or damage.
2. Select PC mode
- A50 Gen 3 and older: select PC mode on the base station. Logitech’s older instructions identify PC mode with a white indicator and console mode with a red indicator.
- A20 Gen 2: press the transmitter button until its LED is white, indicating PC mode.
- A50 X and A50 Gen 5: use the PLAYSYNC control to select the PC system according to the applicable setup guide.
LED behavior differs by generation, so do not apply the older white-indicator rule to every ASTRO model.
3. Dock and synchronize A50-family headsets
Seat the headset carefully in the base station so the charging contacts meet. Check for battery or synchronization indicators. If the headset is not charging, a Windows setting cannot fix the underlying problem. Reseat it, inspect the gold contacts and dock pins for debris or misalignment, and clean only with a dry method—never liquid.
4. Restart Windows with the hardware connected
After changing the port or mode, restart the PC while the transmitter or base station remains connected. If Windows still shows no ASTRO device, test another compatible USB port and, where possible, another computer. A device that is invisible on multiple computers after direct connection is more likely to have a cable, transmitter, base-station, or headset fault.

If Windows detects the headset but there is no sound
- Right-click the speaker icon and open Sound settings.
- Under Output, select the model’s Game endpoint.
- Confirm that the device is not muted, disabled, or set to an extremely low volume.
- Test a browser video or Windows system sound before testing the game.
- If only one game is affected, check Volume mixer and that game’s audio-output setting.
Use the Game endpoint for ordinary game and media output. Voice endpoints are generally intended for communications or chat mixing. Selecting a Voice device as the only system output can create confusing volume or chat behavior.

If the microphone does not work
- In Settings > System > Sound, select the model’s microphone endpoint: A50 X Mic Out, A50 Mic Out, or ASTRO A20 Voice, as applicable.
- Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
- Enable Microphone access, Let apps access your microphone, and Let desktop apps access your microphone.
- Speak while watching Windows’ input meter. If the meter moves, Windows can hear the microphone and the remaining issue is probably inside the game or chat application.
- In the game, explicitly select the ASTRO microphone instead of a webcam, laptop microphone, controller microphone, or another headset.
- Check the headset’s flip-to-mute arm, mute button, and any chat-mix control.
Microsoft lists microphone permissions as a common cause of microphone failures, including after Windows updates. See its microphone troubleshooting guide.
If G HUB cannot find the headset
G HUB is not the same thing as Windows audio detection. An ASTRO device may provide basic playback and recording even when G HUB does not display it. Test Windows output and microphone input first.
Once the physical connection is stable:
- Close G HUB and any game or voice-chat application.
- Disconnect and reconnect the transmitter or base station directly to the PC.
- Restart Windows and reopen G HUB.
- Update or reinstall G HUB only if the device still fails to appear after the USB and mode checks.
Supported newer A50 and A50 X devices use Logitech G HUB for firmware updates. Older A20 Gen 2 instructions reference ASTRO Command Center. Logitech says its older Logitech Firmware Update Tool is no longer supported for newer devices.
Power-cycle a base station
This is a troubleshooting power cycle, not a factory reset:

Model-specific fixes
A20 Gen 2
Connect the USB transmitter—not just the headset’s charging cable—directly to the PC. Press the transmitter button until it shows PC mode. In Windows, use ASTRO A20 Game for default playback and ASTRO A20 Voice for default communications and recording. The official A20 configuration guide covers this layout.
For firmware, follow Logitech’s A20 Gen 2 update instructions rather than applying A50 procedures.

The A20 X can use its PLAYSYNC wireless system or USB-wired mode. For wired mode, connect the headset’s USB-C port to the PC with the supplied USB-C-to-USB-A cable. The headset must be in LIGHTSPEED mode before switching to USB wired mode. USB wired mode takes priority over the PLAYSYNC base connection and is not compatible with Xbox. See Logitech’s A20 X wired-mode instructions.
A50 Gen 3 and older A50
Use the base station’s PC mode, ensure the headset is aligned and charging, and confirm that it is synchronized. Console-specific base stations and modes can matter, so use the instructions for the exact console version. Logitech’s A50 Gen 3 support page covers mode, power, docking, and synchronization issues.
A50 X
Verify the included USB and power arrangement, connect the base station directly to the PC, and select PC through PLAYSYNC. In Windows, choose A50 X Game for output and A50 X Mic Out for input. Other endpoints, including A50 X Voice and A50 X Stream Out, serve different routing purposes. The A50 X setup guide lists the intended PC connections and device names.

A50 Gen 5
Connect the PLAYSYNC base station directly to the PC and select PC mode. Choose A50 Game for output and A50 Mic Out for input. The current A50 Gen 5 setup guide documents this arrangement. Logitech lists Windows 10/11 or later and USB connectivity for the PC setup; however, Microsoft ended free Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025.

Use this only when you have an A50 or A50 X with the matching controls. Do not apply it blindly to an A20 or an older model with different buttons.
- Connect the base station to power.
- Dock the headset.
- Hold PLAYSYNC and GAME for at least six seconds.
- Release the buttons when the front battery indicator lights go out.
This is a hardware reset, not a guaranteed repair. Follow Logitech’s reset instructions if your controls match.
Bluetooth, LIGHTSPEED, USB, and the base station are different paths
Some newer models may support Bluetooth or secondary-device connections, but Bluetooth pairing does not necessarily establish the main PC gaming path. The PC may instead require the USB-connected transmitter, PLAYSYNC base station, LIGHTSPEED mode, or a direct USB-wired connection. A phone connecting over Bluetooth does not prove that the PC transmitter is working.
When the ASTRO is probably defective
Contact Logitech support or pursue warranty service when the headset or transmitter:

- fails identically on two computers;
- is not detected through multiple known-good USB ports;
- has a base station that remains unlit with known-good power;
- will not charge after careful reseating and contact inspection;
- repeatedly fails firmware recovery;
- has a physically damaged connector; or
- stopped working after liquid exposure, impact, or electrical damage.
Do not buy G HUB, Dolby Atmos, or a replacement cable expecting it to repair a failed transmitter or base station. If the hardware works on another computer, the fault is more likely to be Windows, a USB port, a hub, or software routing.
Configure spatial audio only after the connection works
Windows Sonic or Dolby Atmos can be configured after ordinary stereo playback is working. Spatial audio does not fix USB detection, PC-mode errors, missing microphones, or failed firmware updates. First establish reliable output and input; then choose the spatial-audio format you prefer.
