In Java Edition, camera shake that happens when you take damage may be controlled by Damage Tilt in Accessibility settings. In Bedrock Edition, shake may come from the Allow Camera Shake setting, an active /camerashake command, or content in a particular world. Identify when the shake starts before changing settings.
First, identify when the camera shakes
Notice whether the shake begins when you are hit, while you are moving, or after joining a particular world or activating something in it. Also check whether it happens in every world or just one. These clues help distinguish a documented damage effect or Bedrock command from world-specific creator content.
- Only when hurt: In Java Edition, check Damage Tilt.
- In Bedrock, especially after an effect or world event: Check Allow Camera Shake and consider whether a command or creator content is responsible.
- While walking, or across worlds without a clear trigger: The official controls described here do not establish the cause. Check your edition and version and whether mods or other custom content are involved.
Java Edition: reduce shake when you take damage
Mojang introduced Damage Tilt in the Accessibility menu in Java Edition Snapshot 23w06a. It controls the amount of camera shake when you are hurt. If the movement occurs specifically when you take damage, open Accessibility settings and lower or disable Damage Tilt.
Mojang’s snapshot note describes this setting as controlling camera shake “when being hurt”; it does not establish Damage Tilt as the explanation for shake during ordinary walking. Menu placement can vary by version, so look for the setting in Accessibility if your screen differs from the snapshot-era layout. Mojang’s Java Edition Snapshot 23w06a notes.

Bedrock Edition: check the setting and stop command-driven shake
Bedrock’s /camerashake command can add or stop camera shaking. The command reference says the user setting Allow Camera Shake must be enabled for the command to work. If you have permission to use commands in that world and suspect an active command effect, enter /camerashake stop in chat. The command’s stop form is the relevant option for ending a running shake; adding an effect requires cheats and the Game Directors permission level. The command reference also documents optional effect parameters: intensity ranges from 0 to 4 and defaults to 0.5; duration defaults to 1 second; and the type defaults to positional, with rotational as the other type. Those options describe command-created effects, not a universal cause of shaking. If the shake returns in one world after stopping it, inspect that world’s command blocks, add-ons, scripts, or other creator content.

Bedrock creator content can trigger camera shake
Bedrock creator scripts can queue camera-shake events. The creator API distinguishes positional and rotational events, which are tracked separately and can run at the same time. Each type’s active intensity is capped at 4.0, and an event expires when its duration ends. These are details of the creator API, not ordinary player settings; they are most relevant when shake is limited to a world using scripts or other creator content. - Confirm the edition and installed version. Java and Bedrock use different documented controls.
- Note the trigger. Check whether the camera moves on damage, during movement, after a command, or after a world event.
- Compare worlds. If the issue occurs in only one Bedrock world, investigate its commands, add-ons, scripts, or other creator content.
- Check for custom modifications. If the documented settings do not explain the movement, note whether you use mods or other third-party content. The official controls described here do not diagnose every possible camera-motion cause.
Version can matter: Bedrock 1.20.10 release notes documented a fix so that /camerashake shook the camera without also shaking the player. That is a historical change note, not proof that a current issue is caused by the earlier behavior. If a documented control does not help, include your installed version when seeking help.
