Check whether it works in another car or game first; one symptom alone does not identify the cause.
Check whether the selected car supports H-pattern shifting
If the shifter works in some cars but not the one you are driving, check the car’s transmission before troubleshooting the hardware. Some cars use sequential or dog-box transmissions that disable H-pattern shifting, according to iFixit’s G27 troubleshooting guide.
Try the shifter in another car that supports an H-pattern gearbox, or in another game with a compatible car. If it works there, inspect the current game’s transmission options and control assignments rather than treating the shifter as failed.
Check the game’s control assignments and reported inputs
If the wheel is recognized on a PC but gear changes do not register, confirm that the game has the G27 shifter assigned to the correct controls. Check whether selecting a gear produces an input in the game’s control setup or input display, if available. This helps distinguish a game-binding problem from a shifter that is not sending input.

Driver availability and compatibility depend on the PC’s operating system. Check Logitech’s current G27 download information for your system instead of assuming a particular driver version or operating-system combination applies.
Recalibrate or reconnect the G27
Logitech says the G27 calibrates its hardware each time the wheel is connected to a PC and powered on. For calibration problems such as incorrect alignment, Logitech documents this reconnection sequence; it is not a guaranteed fix for every shifter-only failure.
- Update the Logitech software for the G27.
- Unplug both the USB cable and AC power from the wheel.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Reconnect AC power.
- Connect the USB cable to a different computer port.

If the whole wheel is not recognized on a PC
When the PC or game does not recognize the G27 wheel at all, Logitech documents using its WheelDriverCleaner procedure: disconnect the wheel, run WheelDriverCleaner.exe, then reconnect the wheel. The procedure addresses whole-wheel recognition; Logitech does not present it as a proven fix for a shifter-only problem. See Logitech’s recognition troubleshooting article.

When the shifter may have a hardware fault
If the shifter remains unresponsive across compatible cars or games after connection and control checks, an internal potentiometer failure is one documented possible cause. iFixit’s troubleshooting guide identifies potentiometer replacement as a possible repair path, but does not establish a specific compatible part number. Identify the component and verify compatibility before attempting a repair.
Logitech’s G27 support page currently displays no spare parts available for the product. That does not rule out used or third-party parts, but any listing needs to be checked for actual G27 compatibility. The sources cited here do not establish a failure rate or a guaranteed repair outcome.
