The item row at the bottom of the screen is Minecraft’s hotbar, part of the heads-up display (HUD). If it has vanished, first check whether the HUD was hidden: in Java Edition, press F1 once. If you play Bedrock, look for Hide HUD and HUD opacity in the video or display settings; labels and placement can vary by device and version.
Try the HUD toggle first
Java Edition
Press F1 to toggle the HUD. Minecraft documents F1 as the HUD-hide shortcut and notes that a customized hotkey may differ. If F1 hid the bar, pressing it again should bring the interface back. See Minecraft Help’s Java Edition screenshot guide.
Bedrock Edition
Open the game’s video or display settings and check for a Hide HUD switch. If the bar is technically present but hard to see, look for a HUD opacity control and raise it. Exact labels and menu locations are not established for every console, mobile device, Windows version, or game release, so use the settings available on your platform.
Check whether the control changed
If F1 does not restore the HUD in Java, open the options and controls menu and check whether the HUD key binding was changed. Minecraft’s controls guide says bindings can be customized and restored to defaults from that menu. The guide also shows why it matters to match instructions to your device: keyboard, controller, and touch controls differ. Minecraft’s controls guide lists E for opening inventory on keyboard, a platform-specific controller button, and the “…” button on touch.

Hotbar hidden or inventory not opening?
These are different problems. If the row of item slots is missing, troubleshoot HUD visibility. If the row is visible but you cannot open or use inventory, check the inventory control for your input method instead. On keyboard the guide lists E; controller and touch use different controls.
Bedrock creator worlds: reset the hotbar element
Bedrock 1.20.60 release notes document commands for hiding and resetting individual HUD elements, including the hotbar. In a world and version where the experimental feature is available, try:

/hud reset hotbar
This command requires the Upcoming Creator Features toggle and is not established as an option in every ordinary retail world. The same release notes document /hud hide <hud element> and /hud reset <hud element>. See the Bedrock 1.20.60 release notes.
If the bar is still missing
The documented HUD shortcuts and settings do not identify every possible cause. To narrow it down, note your edition, device, game version, and whether you use resource packs, UI add-ons, or mods. Those details matter because an interface modification or version-specific issue is not diagnosed by the standard control documentation. Minecraft Education community support threads mention restarting the app, but that is anecdotal advice rather than a universal documented fix.
