Work out which input is failing
“Keyboard not working” can mean several different things. Note whether you cannot type in experience chat, move your character, use particular keys, or enter anything at all. Also check whether it happens in one experience or across multiple Roblox experiences, and whether the keyboard works in another application.
- Only chat is affected: Roblox documents an occasional issue involving international keyboard layouts and experience chat.
- Movement or particular controls are affected: The chat workaround below is not established as a fix for gameplay input. The available details do not identify a cause.
- The keyboard also fails outside Roblox: That points beyond a Roblox-only symptom; test the keyboard in another app and use support for your device or operating system as appropriate.
These checks help describe the problem; they do not by themselves prove whether an experience, Roblox, the keyboard layout, or the device is responsible.
If you cannot use experience chat
Roblox Support says international keyboards have occasionally caused difficulty accessing the experience chat feature. Its first suggested workaround is to press the backslash key () to use chat. Consider the keyboard region setting only if the symptom fits
If backslash does not work and the issue is specifically with chat and keyboard layout, Roblox says changing the keyboard’s region settings may resolve it. The support article gives legacy Control Panel directions; labels and paths can differ in current Windows versions, so use the equivalent keyboard or region setting for your system rather than treating those old menu names as universal.
Roblox warns that changing the region setting may cause other programs to behave differently or make keyboard control awkward. Note your current setting first so you can restore it if needed. Do not change the layout as a general fix for failed movement or other gameplay keys: Roblox’s documented suggestion is limited to the chat issue.

If movement or other gameplay keys fail
The cited Roblox keyboard guidance does not establish a specific fix for movement or other in-game controls. Use the symptom checks to narrow the report: identify the affected keys, whether the same failure occurs in another experience, and whether those keys work in other apps. Avoid assuming that an international layout, an outage, or a faulty keyboard is the cause without those details.
If Roblox is also showing broader desktop problems, restarting the computer is among Roblox’s general suggestions; its desktop troubleshooting page also discusses temporary files and firewall interference for certain symptoms. Use troubleshooting that matches your platform and symptoms
Windows or Mac desktop app
Roblox lists Windows 10 or 11 and macOS 10.13 or later for computer installation; its requirements page says Linux is unsupported. If Roblox itself has broader problems, follow the guidance for your operating system rather than applying browser steps to an app symptom. Roblox Support: Computer Requirements.
Roblox website or browser
If the issue appears to involve the Roblox website rather than keyboard input inside an experience, Roblox suggests clearing temporary files and cookies and disabling browser add-ons one at a time. Those are website troubleshooting steps; the support page does not promise they will restore gameplay keys. Roblox Support: General Website Issues.

Mac-specific problems
For broader Roblox problems on Mac, Roblox suggests restarting and, in some cases, reinstalling. If the problem is browser-related, it also suggests trying another supported browser; contact support if the problem persists.
