What the lock can mean
Roblox does not define one universal meaning for every lock graphic. Depending on where it appears, it may signal an access restriction tied to content maturity, a parent’s controls, age eligibility, or account and regional settings. It does not, by itself, prove that the experience requires a purchase or that your account is banned.
Start by trying to open the experience and reading the full message. Roblox says an experience above the account’s permitted content maturity level may appear in search or ads but will not be playable; the player may see a message that it is unavailable due to the content maturity restriction.
Check the experience’s maturity level
Roblox uses four content maturity labels: Minimal, Mild, Moderate, and Restricted. These labels give a broad indication of what to expect; experience creators provide content descriptors. Minimal may include occasional mild violence or fear, while Mild may include repeated mild violence or fear. Moderate can include moderate violence or fear and other descriptors. Restricted may include stronger violence, realistic blood, romantic themes, alcohol, strong language, and other listed content. See Roblox’s Content Maturity Labels for the label descriptions.

Compare the experience’s label with the content level allowed for the account. For a child account linked to a parent, the parent can review maturity settings in Parental Controls. Roblox’s Parental Controls Overview explains how linked parents manage those controls.
Check whether a parent blocked that specific experience
A parent can block an individual game through parental controls, independently of its maturity label. A blocked experience may still appear in search, so visibility does not necessarily mean it can be opened. A linked parent account can manage allowed and blocked games; Roblox covers this in its Parental Controls Overview and Parental Controls FAQ.

Check age eligibility and regional availability
Some content and features have age-related eligibility requirements. Roblox says Restricted experiences are for users who are 18 or older and have completed an age check. Age-check availability and access can also depend on account settings and region; some Restricted experiences are unavailable in certain regions. Roblox explains the rules in Understanding Age Checks on Roblox.
If you think age eligibility is the issue, check the account’s age group and age-check status using Roblox’s official instructions. Roblox describes age estimation and verification in How does Roblox estimate my age? Changing a birthday alone is not a reliable fix; use the official account and age-check guidance.

Troubleshoot in this order
- Read the full message. Try opening the experience and note whether Roblox names a content maturity restriction or gives another explanation.
- Compare maturity settings. Check the experience’s label and the account’s permitted content level. For a linked child account, ask the parent to review Parental Controls.
- Check for an individual block. A parent may have blocked the experience regardless of its maturity label.
- Confirm age eligibility. Review the account’s age group and age-check status if the experience or feature has an age requirement.
- Consider region and account settings. Availability can vary, including for Restricted experiences.
- Contact Roblox Support if it remains unclear. Provide the exact experience and the full message shown. The lock graphic alone does not establish the cause.
