What’s actually slowing this PC down?

High ping in Rocket League can come from the selected server region, your home network, your internet provider’s route to a server host, or a server-side problem. The quickest way to narrow it down is to turn on the game’s Connection Quality Indicators, check service status and region, then test your network one change at a time.
What your in-game connection indicator tells you
Rocket League separates several connection symptoms rather than treating every kind of lag as the same problem. Go to Settings > Interface > Connection Quality Indicators, then check the indicator shown during a match. Epic Games Support says the indicators can help narrow down high ping, packet loss, or disconnection, but they do not identify the root cause by themselves.
- High Latency: The usual high-ping symptom: communication with the game server is taking longer than desired.
- Latency Variation: Ping is fluctuating rather than staying steady.
- Packet Loss: Some data is being lost between you and the server.
- Server Health: The game is reporting a server-side health concern.
- Disconnected: The connection to the match has been lost.
These labels help distinguish a consistently slow connection from an unstable one. A steady ping reading does not rule out local problems: Psyonix has noted that local issues can still cause packet loss or instability.
Check the server status and matchmaking region
First check the Epic Games Status page and confirm that Rocket League matchmaking is using the region that makes sense for your location. A distant or unintended region can add delay even when your home connection is working normally. Epic Games lists both service status and region checks early in its PC connection troubleshooting guidance.

- 40 Gbps 2000 Mhz High Speed: The Cat 8 ethernet cable support max. 40 Gbps data transfer and 2000 MHz Brandwith, ideal for gaming and streaming, greatly improving upload and download speed, sound, image and resolution quality
- Excellent Anti-interference: The ethernet cable comes with 4 shielded foiled twisted pairs (F/FTP), pure copper core and gold-plated RJ45 connector, reducing interference, noise and crosstalk, making network speed faster and more stable
- Marvelous Durability: Internet cable wrapped with quality cotton braided cord, which makes the LAN cable stronger and more durable. The test proves that this internet cable can be bent at least 10000 times without broken, very suitable for long-term use
- PoE Supported: All lengths of ethernet cord can support the PoE power supply function except 65ft. You don't need additional power supply when installing a PoE camera, which is very convenient and safe
- Wide Compatibility: With the RJ45 Connector, network cable can be perfectly compatible with computers, laptops, modems, routers, PS5, X-Box and other networking devices. It can also be fully backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6e, Cat6, Cat5e, Cat5
If the problem appeared suddenly across multiple matches or is affecting other players, a service or regional issue becomes more plausible. Check current status rather than assuming there is an outage: a status page cannot rule out every brief or localized problem.
Test your home network one change at a time
Epic Games’ PC troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting your router, trying a wired connection, and disconnecting other devices that are using the network. When practical, change one thing at a time and compare several matches in the same region. That makes it easier to see whether a change helped; none of these steps guarantees a particular ping improvement.

- Cat 8 Speed, Cat 5/5e Value Enjoy Cat 8 Ethernet cable performance at a Cat 5/5e-level value. With up to 40Gbps speed and 2000MHz bandwidth, this high speed internet cable delivers more bandwidth than standard Cat 5 and Cat 5e cables, helping support smooth gaming, streaming, video calls, large file transfers and everyday wired network use.
- 40Gbps Speed, Wide Compatibility This Cat 8 Ethernet cable supports up to 40Gbps data transfer and 2000MHz bandwidth for fast, reliable internet performance. Standard RJ45 connectors are backward compatible with Cat7, Cat6, Cat6a and Cat5e devices, including routers, modems, switches, gaming PCs, PS5, PS4, Xbox, smart TVs, laptops and printers.
- Stable U/FTP Shielding Each of the 4 twisted pairs is individually wrapped with aluminum foil to help reduce crosstalk, noise, and signal interference. Combined with RJ45 connectors on both ends, the U/FTP design helps maintain cleaner signal transmission for a stable and reliable wired network connection.
- Nylon Braided Durability The nylon braided jacket adds everyday durability while keeping the cable flexible and easy to route. Reinforced construction helps the cord handle bending, pulling and frequent plugging, making it a reliable choice for desks, gaming rooms, home offices and long-term network setups.
- 50ft Reach for More Setups The 50 ft length makes it easier to connect devices across rooms, along walls, under desks or around corners. Great for router-to-PC connections, modem-to-TV setups, gaming consoles, workstations, printers and other home network equipment that needs a longer Ethernet cable.
- Restart the router. Power-cycle your router, let it reconnect, then test Rocket League again.
- Pause other network use. Disconnect or temporarily stop other devices and applications using the connection, then compare matches.
- Try Ethernet if you normally use Wi-Fi. A wired test helps determine whether Wi-Fi contributes to instability. If you do not already have a suitable cable, an Ethernet cable is an optional purchase for this test—not a universal fix.
If Ethernet improves the connection, that points toward Wi-Fi conditions in your home as a contributing factor. It cannot fix a distant game server, an ISP routing problem, or poor server performance.
When the cause may be your ISP’s route or the game server
Your internet provider’s route to the game server can matter even if other websites and games work normally. In a letter about server performance, Psyonix’s CEO wrote: “Individual ISPs can have routing issues to one of our server hosts that causes unusually high ping that we have no control over.” That establishes routing as a possible cause, not proof that a particular provider is responsible for your connection.

If high latency or packet loss continues after checking region and testing your local network, contact Rocket League Support or your current ISP. Share the matchmaking region, approximate times, the Connection Quality Indicator shown, and whether other online services are affected. Those details are more useful for investigating a specific route or match than a ping number alone.

Rocket League’s Known Issues page was last updated October 6, 2026; its listed issues did not include high ping or connectivity. That list is useful for checking acknowledged problems, but an issue not appearing there does not exclude a transient outage, a regional problem, or a route specific to your ISP.

A March 27, 2018 Rocket League announcement reported “57,000 and counting” servers across ten regions at that time. That is historical context only, not a current server count or a guarantee about which regions are available now. The same announcement described server health, packet loss, latency variation, and high latency as distinct connection conditions.
