If Roblox looks blurry or runs choppily, first check the in-game graphics setting and close other demanding apps. If the picture is smooth but players warp or your actions register late, the problem is more likely your connection than image quality. A problem confined to one experience may be something its creator needs to fix.
First, identify what “bad quality” means
| What you notice | More likely cause | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| The picture stutters or looks choppy | Graphics lag or a device under heavy load | Lower the graphics setting, then close demanding apps |
| Players warp, or actions take unusually long to register | A slow or unstable network connection | Check the connection and try another experience |
| Graphics problems appear in only one experience | An issue with that experience, such as a bad script or too many objects | Test another experience; contact the creator if the issue is isolated |
| Textures, images, or text look distorted on a computer | Potential graphics-card support, driver, or settings issue | Check graphics support and the card manufacturer’s driver guidance |
Roblox distinguishes graphics lag from network lag: choppy visuals can occur when a device struggles to render an experience, while warping players and delayed actions point to a slow or unstable connection. See Roblox Support’s guide to reducing lag.
Lower Roblox’s graphics quality
- While you are in an experience, press Esc or open the Roblox menu.
- Select Settings and find the graphics controls.
- Turn off Graphics Quality – Auto, if that option appears, then lower the graphics level.
- Return to the experience and see whether the picture runs more smoothly.
In Automatic mode, the client controls graphics quality. In Manual mode, the slider lets you choose: moving it left favors performance, while moving it right favors visual quality. Lower settings reduce some image quality but also reduce the work your device has to do. Menu labels and availability can vary by client version. Roblox explains these trade-offs in its graphics-quality guidance.
Close other demanding apps
If lowering graphics does not help, close apps that are using substantial system resources, then try Roblox again. Running several demanding apps at once can leave less capacity for the game.

Check for a connection problem
If the main symptoms are warping players or delayed actions rather than a choppy picture, graphics settings may not address the cause. Roblox describes network lag as the result of an internet connection to Roblox that is slow or unstable.
- Try another experience to see whether the issue is widespread or isolated.
- On mobile, try Wi-Fi if cellular service is unreliable. Roblox’s mobile requirements page recommends Wi-Fi rather than 3G/4G when a mobile connection is causing trouble.
- Roblox recommends 4–8 Mb/s for a single-use household on its computer requirements page and also states 4–8 Mb/s on its mobile requirements page. These are minimum recommendations, not a guarantee of smooth play; a larger household may need more bandwidth.
A slow connection can also make a large experience take longer to download.

When the problem is only in one experience
If other experiences run normally, the affected one may be poorly made, contain a bad script, or include too many objects. Roblox says the creator is the party able to repair an experience-specific problem; changing your device settings may not fix it. See Roblox’s guidance on slow experiences.
On a computer, check graphics support and drivers
If you see unusual textures, warped images, unreadable text, or other graphics errors, Roblox lists several possible causes on its computer graphics-problems page:

- Smooth motion: 240Hz refresh rate and fast 0.5ms response time provide crisp visuals and fluid movement with less input lag.
- Seamless gaming: FreeSync Premium and HDMI VRR eliminate tearing for smooth, responsive PC and console gameplay.
- Fast IPS: Faster 0.5ms response with excellent color accuracy across wide IPS viewing angles.
- Rich color: 99% sRGB color coverage delivers vivid, detailed imagery with strong accuracy.
- Eye comfort: TÜV Rheinland 3‑star certified display lowers blue light while preserving color quality.
- The graphics hardware may not support the required DirectX feature level.
- The graphics driver may be outdated.
- The graphics card may be unsupported.
- Graphics settings may have been changed.
Check the graphics hardware and obtain a current driver for that exact model from the graphics-card manufacturer’s support page. Roblox lists Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) and macOS 10.13 or newer among its computer operating-system requirements, and says Linux is unsupported. Requirements can change, so check Roblox’s current computer requirements for the details that apply to your device.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Consider hardware only after troubleshooting
If adjusting graphics, closing other apps, and checking for an experience or connection issue do not help, the device may not have enough capacity for the experience. Roblox says a more powerful device may be needed when its troubleshooting steps fail. Its general best-performance guidance is a computer less than five years old with a dedicated video card, or a laptop less than three years old with integrated graphics. These are broad recommendations, not a diagnosis or a guarantee that a particular device will run every experience smoothly.
