It’s usually the visible range of a nearby feeding trough or Tek trough—not a danger boundary. Look for the trough at the center of the circle and hide its visible area. If no trough explains it, check whether a nearby dinosaur has its copy-settings visual range turned on.
What the green circle means
In ARK: Survival Evolved, the ring commonly marks a trough’s displayed range. A March 2020 discussion on the ARK Official Community Forums quotes an update note: “Added an optional visual indicator for the TEK trough radius.” That indicator was intended to show a Tek trough’s radius, though the same discussion describes the ring appearing around S+ Tek troughs as well. This historical report does not establish that every green circle has the same cause today.
How to find and hide the indicator
- Find the center of the ring. Check nearby feeding troughs and Tek troughs first; the centered object is the best clue. A Steam Community answer recommends going to the feeding trough and selecting “hide visible area.”
- Hide the trough’s visible area. Interact with the likely trough and use its visible-area control. Player reports describe accessing the option from a contextual wheel, but the precise wording and interaction can vary by platform or game version. The Steam answer gives the label “hide visible area.”
- If there is no trough at the center, check nearby dinosaurs. Player reports identify a dinosaur’s copy-settings visual range as another possible source. Look for that visual-range display and turn it off if enabled; this is a reported alternative, not a universal explanation.
If the ring is around an S+ Tek trough
The March 2020 official forum discussion describes a historical issue involving S+ Tek troughs and the radius indicator. A later page in that discussion reported that the SuperStructures mod had resolved the issue at the time. These old posts do not confirm current mod support, compatibility, installation steps, or a safe way to change mods. Check which game edition and mods you use before making changes.
If the circle comes back
Some player reports say the display can return after loading or respawning. If it reappears, check the relevant trough’s visible-area setting again; a returning ring does not by itself mean the original toggle was incorrect. These reports are anecdotal and do not confirm how the setting behaves in every version. See the player troubleshooting discussion.
