Ubisoft Connect PC downloads can fail because of an internet or Ubisoft service issue, insufficient space on the selected drive, permissions, an outdated client, or a client setting or cache problem. Check those in order: start with the connection and available storage, then update and run the client as an administrator, review its settings, and reset its cache if needed.
1. Check your internet connection and Ubisoft service status
Confirm that your PC is connected to the internet and that other online services work. Then check the Ubisoft Help Live Feed Update, shown near the top of Ubisoft Help, for planned maintenance or service degradation. Service status can change, so check it while the download is failing; the support page does not establish that an incident is active now.
2. Check free space on the selected install drive
Compare the game’s storage requirement in its minimum requirements with the free space on the drive Ubisoft Connect is set to use. Ubisoft lists insufficient available storage as a possible reason a download will not start. The selected destination matters: a different drive may have enough room even if the current one does not.
You can review or change the default installation location under Profile menu → Settings → Downloads. If no suitable drive has enough free space, storage capacity may be the issue; check your PC’s drive interface and form factor before buying or installing an upgrade. Ubisoft’s download error guidance and download settings instructions cover these checks.

3. Update Ubisoft Connect and run it as an administrator
Ubisoft says an outdated desktop client can cause download issues. It also recommends running Ubisoft Connect PC with administrative rights so the app has the permissions it needs to download a game.
- Close Ubisoft Connect PC.
- Find its shortcut or app entry, open its context menu, and select Run as administrator.
- If the client indicates an update is available, install it before trying the download again.
Ubisoft’s “Unable to start download” guidance recommends both administrative rights and an up-to-date client.

4. Review download settings
Open Profile menu → Settings → Downloads in Ubisoft Connect PC. Check whether a bandwidth limit is set, whether downloads are configured to pause while you play, and whether the default installation or cache location is the one you expect. The settings page also includes automatic game update controls. Ubisoft describes these options in its download settings guide.
5. Reset the Ubisoft Connect cache
If the connection, space, permissions, client version, and settings look right, try Ubisoft’s cache reset. Log out, close Ubisoft Connect PC completely, and make sure it is no longer running in the background. Rename the cache folder in each default location below—for example, rename it to cache_backup—then restart the client.

Ubisoft says the client automatically creates new, empty cache folders when it restarts. These instructions concern cache folders, not installed games or save files. See Ubisoft’s cache reset instructions.
6. Reinstall the client if the other checks fail
Ubisoft recommends reinstalling Ubisoft Connect PC if its earlier troubleshooting does not resolve the download error. Before removing the client, close it and back up your save files. During uninstall, you can choose whether to keep installed games and local saves. Ubisoft’s reinstall instructions also say to remove the cache folder from the installation location, install the latest client with administrative rights, and restart the PC afterward. If the error says “Service is unavailable”
Ubisoft says the messages “Service is unavailable” and “A Ubisoft Server is unavailable” can appear when starting an outdated client. Fully close Ubisoft Connect, including from the system tray, and download the newest version. See Ubisoft’s guidance for these error messages.

If these steps do not fix the problem, contact Ubisoft Support and attach DxDiag and MSInfo reports, as requested in its download troubleshooting guidance. Include the exact error message and which checks you have tried so support can investigate the failure on your PC.
