The most likely reason is that the nickname for that evolution has already been used on your account. Each Eevee name trick is reported to guarantee its matching evolution only once per account. Rename Eevee, reopen its Pokémon page, and check the evolution preview; if it shows the wrong Pokémon, don’t tap Evolve.
Check the evolution preview before evolving
- Open Eevee’s Pokémon page and change its nickname to the name for the evolution you want.
- Return to Eevee’s page and inspect the evolution preview. It should show the intended Pokémon before you confirm.
- If the preview is not the form you want, stop there. The guide reports a cost of 25 Eevee Candy per evolution, so don’t spend the candy until the preview is correct.
The nickname list and preview guidance come from a specialist Pokémon GO guide published September 8, 2026. Niantic’s Help Center provides general support information, but does not document a specific fix for a nickname that appears set while the preview remains wrong.

Confirm the nickname and its one-time limit
Each name is reported to work once per account for its corresponding evolution. Using one name does not use up the other seven. The reported nickname mappings are:

If you previously used the name for the form you want, changing it back will not restore the guarantee. Use that Pokémon’s ordinary evolution route instead.

What happens after the name trick is used?
- Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon: The ordinary route is random, so the preview may not match a specific one of these outcomes.
- Espeon, Umbreon, and Sylveon: The ordinary route uses Buddy progress.
- Leafeon and Glaceon: The ordinary route uses a special Lure Module.
These ordinary requirements can make an evolution available independently of a nickname. If the preview is unexpected, check whether the name’s one-time use is exhausted and whether a normal evolution condition is in effect before proceeding.
If the preview still looks wrong
If the intended nickname is set and the preview still does not match, the available sources do not establish a current bug or a specific server-side cause, and Niantic’s general help page does not give a targeted repair. Don’t evolve that Eevee while the preview is wrong. You can consult the Pokémon GO Help Center for support options, but a particular fix for this exact symptom is not documented there.
