A slow VALORANT update can come from a slow internet connection or a problem with the local Riot Client or game installation; the download alone doesn’t reveal which. First check whether other downloads on your connection are slow, then check Riot’s service status and work through the least disruptive troubleshooting steps before considering a reinstall.
How to tell whether the problem is your connection or VALORANT
Try another download on the same computer, and check whether other devices using the same connection are also slow. If several downloads are affected, start with the connection rather than assuming VALORANT’s servers or your PC are at fault. Riot lists a Network Connection Troubleshooting resource for VALORANT technical problems; its existence does not establish that a network issue is the cause of a particular slow update.
If other downloads work normally and only VALORANT is affected, the issue may be specific to the Riot Client or game installation. That comparison is a diagnostic clue, not proof of a particular cause.
Check for a service issue before changing anything
Check Riot’s current service status for relevant incidents. A slow update by itself does not confirm an outage, and no particular active incident or patch-specific cause is established here.

What to try, from least to most disruptive
- Compare other downloads. Test another download on the same computer and, if practical, another device on the same connection. If those are slow too, consult Riot’s network troubleshooting resource and investigate the connection.
- Restart the Riot Client and computer. If other downloads are normal, close the Riot Client, restart the computer, and check the update again. This is a basic troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
- Check Riot Support for current client-specific advice. Guidance may vary with the issue or operating system. The available support information does not establish a universal fix for slow VALORANT updates.
- Reinstall only if the problem persists. Riot’s uninstall and reinstall instructions describe removing VALORANT and Riot Client, deleting specified game/client folders and local data, restarting, and downloading the installer again. Follow Riot’s instructions for your operating system, and preserve any files you need before removing local data.
When to contact Riot Support
If the update remains unusually slow after these checks, contact Riot Support. Include your operating system and region, when the slowdown began, whether other downloads are affected, the progress or speed shown in the client, and any error message. These details can help explain the problem; they are not stated as mandatory Riot requirements.
