WickedWhims can seem to break The Sims 4 after a game update, when its installed version does not support your game patch, when it is installed or enabled incorrectly, or when another mod conflicts with it. The timing alone does not identify the culprit. Check the game and mod versions, match the fix to the symptom, then test WickedWhims separately from the rest of your Mods folder.
Start with the symptom and version numbers
Before moving files, note the Sims 4 version shown on the main menu, the installed WickedWhims release, when the problem began, and what happens when you reproduce it. Distinguish a crash or failure to load from a missing WickedWhims interaction, an exception notification, or a specific visual defect; these symptoms point to different checks.

Compare your game patch with the compatibility information on the official WickedWhims download page. At the time of the page snapshot on May 23, 2026, it listed WickedWhims v185k and support for Sims 4 versions through 1.128.90. Those details are time-sensitive, not a guarantee for later patches, so use the live page for your installed game version.
If the problem began after a Sims 4 update
A game patch can make a previously working mod incompatible, and creators may need time to update their files. Electronic Arts warns that a mod that caused no earlier problems can cause them after an update on its Sims 4 mods, game updates, and error codes page. Check the current WickedWhims compatibility information before loading a save with mods enabled.

- In the game’s Options, disable mods and custom content, then restart the game and check whether the base game loads normally.
- Exit without saving while content is disabled. EA warns that saving in this state may remove modded content from the save.
- Check the creator’s current compatibility guidance and install or replace WickedWhims as directed.
- When ready to test, enable both custom content and script mods in Options, restart, and see whether the issue returns.
If WickedWhims is missing or appears inactive
Check the installation before diagnosing a conflict. WickedWhims’ installation guidance explains that the file structure matters and lists common mistakes that can prevent the mod from loading.
- Confirm the extracted WickedWhims files are in the Sims 4 Mods folder and are not buried too deeply in nested folders.
- In game Options, make sure both custom content and script mods are enabled. Restart after changing either setting.
- Remove duplicate WickedWhims copies so the game is not loading more than one version.
- Use the creator’s current download and installation instructions rather than assuming an old copy matches your game patch.
Test whether another mod is responsible
Do not conclude that WickedWhims caused the problem just because it was installed when the problem appeared. The creator says outdated mods can cause other mods to break and recommends testing with WickedWhims kept in place while other mods are removed. Its Mods Reliability guidance describes that isolation approach; it does not mean WickedWhims can never be at fault.

- Back up your saves, then move every other mod and custom-content file out of the Mods folder, leaving WickedWhims installed.
- Launch the game and reproduce the same action that caused the issue.
- If the problem is gone, add the removed files back in batches and test again after each batch.
- When a batch brings the problem back, split that batch into smaller groups and repeat until you identify the file or combination that triggers it.
EA also recommends adding mods back in batches and dividing a problematic batch to narrow down the cause. A conflict-detector utility is not proof that every mod is current or healthy: the creator says such tools are not intended to find all broken or outdated mods, so a clean result does not rule out a bad file.
If bodies or visuals look distorted
For stretched, floating, or distorted body parts, check for competing or outdated Sim animation-rig modifications. The creator’s visual-issues guidance distinguishes rig files from sex-animation packages, so do not remove every animation package indiscriminately. Unsupported skin-tone overrides or body replacements can cause other visual defects; identify the symptom and test the relevant override rather than deleting unrelated content.

What to send when asking for support
If the problem persists, provide the exact Sims 4 and WickedWhims versions, the steps that reproduce the issue, and the newest relevant exception file. The creator’s support information page lists potentially useful files: lastException.txt, BE-ExceptionReport.html, WickedWhims_Exception.txt, and mc_lastexception.html.
Send the most recently created file that appears relevant. An exception file can contain information unrelated to the actual problem, so its filename or one line alone does not establish the cause.
