The main Minecraft PC game—Java & Bedrock Edition—is sold through Minecraft and Microsoft’s official channels, not listed as a Steam purchase. Minecraft’s official pages do not give a definitive reason for that choice. Explanations involving Steam fees, exclusivity, or launcher strategy are speculation unless backed by a direct statement.
What is—and isn’t—available on Steam
The official PC offer is Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC. Minecraft directs PC players to its own site, the Microsoft Store, and the Xbox app/Minecraft Launcher ecosystem. The official download page describes the Launcher as the hub for accessing Minecraft games and provides download routes outside Steam: Minecraft download page.

This answer concerns the main Java and Bedrock PC game. It should not be generalized to every Minecraft-branded product or spin-off; the relevant question is whether the core PC bundle is offered through Steam.
Why isn’t the main PC game on Steam?
Minecraft and Mojang’s official pages reviewed here do not publish a definitive explanation for why the main PC game is not listed on Steam. The Minecraft End User License Agreement mentions Steam as an example of a platform whose terms may apply to purchases made there. That reference is not evidence that the Java & Bedrock PC bundle is sold on Steam, nor does the EULA explain its absence.

Claims that a Steam revenue share, an exclusivity deal, technical incompatibility, or a deliberate Microsoft store strategy caused the decision are unconfirmed without a source that directly supports them. It is reasonable to wonder whether commercial or distribution considerations matter, but no specific rationale is established by the official information available.
Where to get Minecraft on PC
The current official PC bundle includes both Java and Bedrock editions. You can get the Launcher through the Microsoft Store or download it from Minecraft.net. Minecraft Help also describes an Xbox app installation route: download the Xbox app, sign in, and install Minecraft Launcher from there. - Open the official Minecraft download page or Microsoft Store and choose the Minecraft Launcher download/install option.
- If using the Xbox app, download it and sign in with the Microsoft account you intend to use for Minecraft.
- Open the Launcher and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the game, then check which editions are available.
Java and Bedrock for personal computer were bundled on June 7, 2022.
