Why Kingdom Come: Deliverance II’s “We’ve Been Robbed” Game Awards Reaction Was a Joke

Warhorse’s “robbed” remark came after Kingdom Come: Deliverance II lost Game of the Year, Best Narrative and Best RPG to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The public context was playful, not evidence of award misconduct.

After Kingdom Come: Deliverance II lost three shared categories to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 at The Game Awards 2025, Warhorse communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling posted, “We have officially been robbed!” The remark was presented in a playful context—not as a substantiated allegation that the awards were manipulated.

What did the Kingdom Come: Deliverance II developer say?

Following the Game of the Year result, Warhorse communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling wrote: “We have officially been robbed!” PC Gamer and GamesRadar+ attributed the line to him in contemporary coverage.

Both outlets described the reaction with humorous context. PC Gamer reported that Warhorse had prepared memes for either outcome and later showed Stolz-Zwilling posing with members of the winning team. GamesRadar+ reported that Warhorse founder Daniel Vávra congratulated Sandfall Interactive, the studio behind Clair Obscur. Those public details support reading “robbed” as a cheeky complaint, not proof of literal theft or award misconduct; they cannot establish Stolz-Zwilling’s private intent.

Best RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Lost

That left Kingdom Come: Deliverance II without a win in its nominated categories at that ceremony. The results establish what happened at the awards, not which game was more deserving; the cited reporting offers no objective basis for deciding that question.

Did Kingdom Come: Deliverance II later win an award?

Yes. BAFTA’s official Games Narrative archive lists Kingdom Come: Deliverance II as the 2026 Games Narrative winner, credited to the Development Team: BAFTA Games Narrative archive. That is recognition from a different awarding body in a later year. It does not change the outcome of The Game Awards 2025.
