In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, “So It Begins” takes you from the first defense of Suchdol through a night-watch check and a final assault. Take a halberd before defending the palisade, recruit and assemble the defenders, then check the eastern palisade guard during the night watch to advance the quest. The story then leads into “Besieged.”
1. Defend the palisade
At the start of the attack, head to the palisade. PowerPyx recommends taking a halberd from the weapons rack by the stairs: you will use it to push down the attackers’ ladders.

- When enemies reach the gate, throw stones through the opening above it. The journal objective may read “Use stones to stop the attack on the gate.”
- For the wall assault, start at the rightmost ladder and work toward the left.
- Let enemies engage your allies before attacking. Charging into a group risks being surrounded.
PowerPyx’s walkthrough recommends this patient approach to the defense.
2. Regroup with Zizka and Godwin
After the first defense, meet Zizka and Godwin on the inner courtyard wall. Zizka assigns Henry men to command. PowerPyx recommends exhausting the conversation; it reports reputation gains for the responses “Zizka should make that decision” and “I’ll do what I can.”

3. Recruit the defenders and assemble the group
Recruit the named defenders, then speak to the group once they are assembled in the outer bailey. The recruit objectives include Sam and Kubyenka, Mikesh and Kozliek, and Henry’s old friends; Dobrosh the hunter and Wolfram the knacker are additional possible recruits.

When you give the assembled group an order, PowerPyx recommends telling them to reinforce the night watch. The guide says this makes the coming raid easier and earns later reputation with Zizka. Other orders are possible, but the cited walkthrough does not establish their consequences.

4. Check the guards during the night watch
After completing the castle rounds, return to bed and speak with Capon. The guard-check objectives cover four locations:
- Eastern wall
- Main gate
- Western palisade
- Outer-bailey gate
PowerPyx identifies the eastern-palisade check as the one that advances the quest. Go there if the objective remains unresolved after checking other posts. GameMaps lists the four locations but does not identify which check advances the quest.

5. Stop the final assault
Follow the remaining siege objectives: knock down the ladders, stop the enemy from controlling the gate, assemble with the others, and report to Zizka. Once the remaining attackers fall, the quest concludes and transitions automatically into “Besieged,” according to Gamer Guides.

“So It Begins” follows “Civitas Pragensis” and precedes “Besieged.” KCD2.org lists it as main quest 27; that number refers to the quest order in its reference, not an in-game objective. See the KCD2.org quest order reference.
