Why were Nintendo Switch 2 preorders delayed in the U.S.?
On April 4, 2025, a Nintendo spokesperson told TechCrunch that U.S. preorders would not begin on their planned April 9 date “in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.” Nintendo said it would announce new preorder timing later. When did U.S. preorders begin, and did the launch date change?
Nintendo’s April 18 update scheduled U.S. retail preorders to begin April 24, 2025. The company apologized for the delay. The system’s June 5, 2025 launch date stayed unchanged, so the preorder postponement did not push back the announced launch. Both dates have passed. Did tariffs change the announced Switch 2 price?
In its April 18 notice, Nintendo maintained the previously announced U.S. suggested retail prices for the console and the Mario Kart World bundle. It separately said accessory prices would be adjusted because of changes in market conditions, and that future adjustments to other Nintendo products might be possible depending on those conditions. So “Nintendo held prices” applies to the console and bundle in that update, not to every product or any later price.

These are historical U.S. suggested prices stated by Nintendo, not current retailer prices. Nintendo did not give a tariff percentage or a specific dollar amount by which tariffs affected any product.

What was included with Switch 2, and what worked with it?
Nintendo said the console package includes the system, Joy-Con 2 controllers, grip and straps, dock, Ultra High-Speed HDMI Cable, AC adapter and USB-C charging cable. The system has 256GB of internal storage and supports microSD Express cards for additional storage.
