He denied using a macro, but the December 2024 report does not independently confirm either his explanation or what the game’s detection system found. Later scrutiny of his gameplay and account, and a separate January 2025 report about boosting, are distinct developments—not proof that the disconnect was a cheating finding.
Why did Path of Exile 2 disconnect Musk?
In a post quoted by Tech Times on December 16, 2024, Musk said the game had disconnected him for making too many actions in a short period. The outlet quoted his response: “Wasn’t even using a macro lol”. Those are Musk’s account of the incident and his denial; the reporting does not independently establish why the disconnect occurred or provide a direct explanation from developer Grinding Gear Games.
Tech Times’ December 16, 2024 report covers the original claim. A disconnection, as described in that post, is not itself a confirmed finding that a player cheated.
What did Musk deny?
Musk denied using a macro in the post quoted by Tech Times. A macro automates or combines inputs; his statement records his position, not independent verification of how he was playing. The available reporting does not establish whether the game’s system detected a macro or what specific rule, if any, triggered the disconnect.

Why did players question his gameplay and account?
In a report published January 10, 2025, Windows Central described players scrutinizing later gameplay and account details. Their questions included an apparent mismatch between the account’s rank and equipment and Musk’s handling of game systems. The outlet characterized the suspicions as not fully verified. That scrutiny should therefore be treated as community allegations, not conclusive proof that someone else played the account.
Windows Central’s report concerns this later discussion, rather than establishing the cause of the December disconnect.

What did the later boosting report add?
On January 29, 2025, The Washington Post reported later messages about boosting and quoted Musk saying top characters “require multiple people playing the account to win a leveling race.” The report is later context about account-sharing practices and boosting; it does not turn the earlier disconnect into a verified cheating detection, nor does it independently settle every allegation about Musk’s specific gameplay.
The Washington Post’s January 29, 2025 investigation describes that later exchange. Keep its timing separate from Musk’s December denial.
