“Lag” in Planet Coaster 2 can mean an unstable online connection or a slow-moving game—two different problems with different troubleshooting paths. First check whether the park itself updates slowly, whether the problem is confined to online play, and whether it happens in one park or across several. Frontier’s current console guidance offers steps for connection and game-launch problems, but does not identify a specific multiplayer-lag defect or promise that one fix will resolve every slowdown.
First, clarify what “multiplayer” means in Planet Coaster 2
Planet Coaster 2’s collaboration is asynchronous: players take turns working on a park rather than building in it simultaneously. This applies to Franchise and Sandbox modes across platforms. Franchise mode is online, and the Frontier Workshop supports sharing parks and content across platforms. Frontier explains these features in its Planet Coaster 2 FAQ.

That distinction matters when diagnosing lag. Delays accessing online features or sharing content point toward a connection problem; a slow simulation or sluggish image update is not, by itself, evidence that multiplayer networking is at fault.

- Connection issue: Online access or interaction is delayed or unstable, while the park’s simulation and visuals otherwise run normally.
- Performance slowdown: The whole park appears to update slowly, whether or not you are using an online feature.
- Online-only or general: Check whether the slowdown also occurs during solo play. If it does, that makes a purely multiplayer connection explanation less likely, but does not identify the cause.
- One park or several: Compare another park if possible. A problem limited to one park may be related to that park’s conditions, but does not prove park size is responsible.
- Wi-Fi or wired: If you suspect an unstable connection, compare Wi-Fi with a wired router connection. A change may help identify a connection issue; it does not diagnose a slow simulation.
- Activity-specific: Note whether it occurs during ordinary play or while using terrain and scenery brushes. Players have reported performance dips during brush use, but individual reports do not establish a universal or confirmed defect.
Try Frontier’s PS5 troubleshooting steps
Frontier’s Planet Coaster 2 console troubleshooting article, updated March 13, 2026, recommends the following for connection or game-launch problems. The steps do not establish that every type of lag is caused by networking or that these remedies will fix every case. See Frontier’s console troubleshooting guide for the current instructions.
- Clear the PS5 cache. Fully turn off the console—do not use Rest Mode. Wait until the indicator light stops blinking and is off, unplug the power cord, wait 30 seconds, reconnect it, and restart the console.
- Test a wired connection if Wi-Fi may be unstable. Connect the PS5 to your router with Ethernet and compare the same online activity. A cable is an optional way to test connection stability; it will not necessarily improve frame rate or simulation speed.
- Check ventilation. Make sure the console has clear airflow around it.
- Reinstall only if crashing continues. Frontier frames reinstalling the game as a step for continued crashing, not as the first response to ordinary lag.
Check the park complexity meter—but do not treat it as a diagnosis
Frontier says the console complexity meter helps keep the experience smooth. At 100, the game prevents you from placing additional buildings or rides; streamlining the park can bring the counter below that limit. This is a building and park-complexity limit, not proof that a particular slowdown is caused by park size. Use it as context when comparing parks, not as a definitive explanation for lag.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
When the problem persists
If the issue is repeatable, note whether it affects one park or several, occurs in solo play, changes on a wired connection, or appears during a particular activity. Report a persistent bug through Frontier’s Planet Coaster 2 issue tracker; use Frontier Customer Support for support requests. Frontier Senior Community Manager Paul_Crowther gave this routing guidance on November 11, 2024. A report should describe the symptom and when it occurs rather than assume a network cause.
