First identify what “lag” means in your flight: uneven visuals, delayed online response, or other players and their aircraft not appearing. Those symptoms point to different problems, and there is no confirmed PS5-specific fix that resolves all of them. Use the checks below to narrow down the issue without assuming a network tweak will fix a game update problem.
Identify the kind of lag you are seeing
Note whether the problem occurs in solo flight, multiplayer, or both, and record the game version and when it happens. This helps distinguish a performance issue from online delay or a multiplayer visibility problem.

- Uneven or slow visuals: The aircraft and scenery look jerky or the frame rate seems to drop. If this also happens in solo flight, it is less likely to be caused only by your multiplayer connection.
- Delayed online response: Other players or online activity update late, even if the visuals remain smooth.
- Missing players, aircraft, or name tags: A friend may be in the session, but their aircraft or tag is not visible. Treat this separately from frame-rate stutter.
Check the game version and current notices
Confirm that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is fully updated on your PS5, then check the game’s current official release notes and support notices for a relevant console fix. Microsoft’s Sim Update 5 announcement, published 30 April 2026, said the update was intended to improve frame rates and reduce stuttering, particularly in large cities and at complex airports. That stated goal does not establish that every PS5 performance or multiplayer issue was fixed.

- Make sure everyone has installed the latest available game update, then restart the game and try joining the same multiplayer session again.
- Check that the relevant friend and account visibility settings allow multiplayer interaction. Microsoft’s general multiplayer troubleshooting article recommends restarting online services, reviewing Xbox account privacy settings, and removing and re-adding friends in some cases.
- Use the current PS5 interface or current support guidance to find the applicable settings. Microsoft’s article was updated in 2024, before the PS5 release, and its Xbox menu paths are not verified as PS5 instructions.
- If the issue continues, note whether multiplayer options are unavailable or only a particular player’s aircraft or tag is missing, along with the game version and date. Include those details when reporting the problem through current official support channels.
If visuals stutter or online play feels delayed
Online play is required for the PS5 version, according to the PlayStation Store listing. If you use Wi-Fi, trying Ethernet can help determine whether the local wireless connection is contributing to online delay. It is a diagnostic comparison, not a confirmed fix for frame-rate stutter, server-side problems, or a multiplayer bug.

Compare the same flight in solo and multiplayer, and note whether stutter is tied to demanding scenery such as a large city or complex airport. If visuals are uneven in both modes, connection changes are unlikely to address the underlying performance symptom; check current game updates and official notices instead. If the visuals are smooth but online interaction is delayed, record when it occurs and whether changing from Wi-Fi to Ethernet changes the symptom.
