Pokémon has publicly said very high demand affected the availability of some products, but it has not published figures that show how large any shortfall is or explain every retailer’s sellout.
What Pokémon says about product availability
In a 27 March 2025 statement, The Pokémon Company International said some fans were having difficulty buying certain Pokémon TCG products because “very high demand” was affecting availability. It said it was working to print more, maximize production for future expansions, and continue reprinting impacted items.
The statement does not give production or demand totals, name a universal cause, or promise when a specific product will return. It supports high demand as a reason availability has been difficult for some products, not a claim that every preorder sells out for the same reason.
Why a sellout can vary by product and retailer
A preorder listing reflects what a particular seller makes available during that sales window; it is not a public measure of the total number of products being made. The official sources do not establish retailer-by-retailer allocation rules, standard preorder quantities, or one opening date shared by all sellers.

Product formats also differ. In its 13 March 2026 Perfect Order showcase, Pokémon listed a booster display box with 36 packs, a standard Elite Trainer Box with nine, a Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box with 11, and a booster bundle with six. Those examples illustrate why “the set is sold out” can be imprecise: availability may differ by format and seller.
Pokémon says Pokémon Center may use a virtual queue for certain products when site traffic is high. A queue indicates heavy site traffic; it does not by itself show how many units are available or why a specific listing has sold out.

Are bots, scalpers, or preorder limits the cause?
The cited official statements do not establish whether bots, scalpers, or speculative buying materially contribute to sellouts. Those explanations may circulate among buyers, but the available evidence does not quantify their role, so they should not be treated as the proven explanation for a particular product disappearing quickly.
Purchase limits can apply in specific circumstances, but they are not necessarily universal. For example, Pokémon’s 3 June 2026 notice for the North American International Championships pop-up store limited customers to one Elite Trainer Box and one Booster Bundle while supplies lasted. That was an event-specific rule, not a general Pokémon TCG preorder policy.

Preorders are not the only early-access route
A prerelease is distinct from a retailer preorder. For Perfect Order, Pokémon said select Play! Pokémon Stores began selling the Build & Battle Box on 14 March 2026, before the expansion’s official 27 March release. This was a dated example of early sales through participating stores, not evidence that every store or product follows the same schedule.
For events and participating local stores, use Pokémon’s Event Locator. Availability and terms depend on the store and event.

What to do if a preorder is gone
- Check the specific seller’s listing and terms. There is no single preorder calendar or policy established across all retailers, so confirm the format, language or edition, included contents, seller, and any purchase limit on the listing itself.
- Watch for official updates and later availability. Pokémon said it would continue reprinting impacted products, but gave no product-specific restock date in its 27 March 2025 statement. A reprint commitment is not a guarantee of when or where a particular item will be available.
- Consider a prerelease if early play is the goal. Check the Event Locator and contact participating local stores about their event and product terms; the Perfect Order example does not imply universal access.
- Compare the exact sealed product before buying elsewhere. A display box, standard Elite Trainer Box, Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box, booster bundle, and Build & Battle Box are different formats. Confirm which one is being offered rather than relying on a set name alone.
What is—and is not—known
Pokémon has acknowledged that very high demand affected the availability of some TCG products and described production and reprint efforts. Its public statements cited here do not quantify any shortage, reveal individual retailer stock or allocation, establish a general preorder limit, or predict the timing of a particular restock. Stock and resale prices can change, and no live inventory or price is established here.
